FS9 Lost the graphics device

Recommended Posts

How do you get FS9 to "re-find" the graphics device? None are listed for selction in FS9 graphics options. This has happened before and I've always simply deleted it and reinstalled FS9. Is there a way to get FS9 to re-learn the available graphics devices?JoelIntel Core 2 Quad 2x GeForce 8800GT 1gb2x 1TB hard drives

Delete your FS9.cfg and start FS9 and will rebuild the file with your current graphics card.

Tried that, no success. Still no device listed in FS9. FSX and everyother application runs fine.

Tried that too, no success. Still baffled, Microsoft Tech Support is equally baffled. I'll probably have to delete everything again... I get tired of this. Every time I change monitors or update drivers FS9 gets stupid on me.

You might try disabling one of the two graphics cards, and then rebuilding the fs9.cfg file. FS9 wasn't coded to work with SLI configs...I have to wonder if that's at the root of the problem. The other thing to try is to add a custom entry for your video card(s) at the beginning of the display.cfg file (in the FS9 main directory). Here's an example of one such entry (for an 8800GTX):

;----------------------------------------------------------------------; NVIDIA 8800GTX on Vista64;----------------------------------------------------------------------[000010DE:00000191:nvd3dum,nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2um, nvwgf2umx.dll]PanelAsTexture=0Shader20Plus=20UseShaders=1

You'll need to run DXDIAG and choose the option to save all information to disk. In that file, under the section for "Display Devices" you'll see Vendor ID, Device ID, and Driver Name. The line in brackets is formed for your display card by showing the Vendor ID as an eight digit number (you have to add the four leading zeros), a colon, then the Device ID as an eight digit number, another colon, then the Driver Name string. For my card, DXDIAG lists: Driver Name: nvd3dum,nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2um, nvwgf2umx.dll Vendor ID: 0x10DE Device ID: 0x0191So that breaks down to 000010DE:00000191:nvd3dum,nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2um, nvwgf2umx.dll between the brackets. With additional monitors in the system, you add additional sections with ".1", ".2", ".3" etc appended to each driver file name, for example:

;----------------------------------------------------------------------; NVIDIA 8800GTX Monitor #2;----------------------------------------------------------------------[000010DE:00000191:nvd3dum.1,nvd3dumx.dll.1,nvwgf2um.1, nvwgf2umx.dll.1]PanelAsTexture=0Shader20Plus=20UseShaders=1

That is what scares me on updating drivers, I figure my sim is running 100% so why update the driver, Having not much computer knowledge, Am i wrong in not updating my drivers if everything is working fine, What can I gain in updating them?P.S Sorry to highjack the thread, I'm not sure what could be your problem, but if you have to reinstall everything I feel for you, I had to do it about 2 weeks ago as I purchased a new system, it is no fun at all. Good luck and hope you can solve this issue.

Hello,

What can I gain in updating them?
Nothing ... or maybe some problems :( Sometime I wonder why so many people want repair things that are not broken ? ...BTW .. for the OP prob .. disconneting one GPU before create a new FS9.CFG seem's a good ideaRegards.bye.gifGus.
