snaking LNAV

Recommended Posts

Whilst following a route using LNAV my aircraft often seems to snake left and right trying to get back on track after a waypoint turn. Its not by very much, but it is a noticeable bank which can be a little irritating. Sometimes I get fed up with the snaking, press hdg sel and wait until I am on the magenta track and then reselect LNAV. What could be the cause of this?ThanksAndy Roberts

Most of the time is is due to MSFS weather engine behaving unrealistic. Check it out with clear weather (no weather). Most use a registered copy of FSUIPC to smooth the wind/press/temps.

I use a reg version of FSUIPC and the weather is generated by the online squawkbox 4 programme.Andy Roberts

Good, do you use the weather smoothing features? Actually, I'm trying to figure out if this was an honest response or something I might hear from my teenager. Regardless, there is not a bug in the PMDG LNAV so that is why I suggested trying it with out weather to eliminate that as a possibility. It doesn't matter what weather source is (default, download, ASX REX or VATSIM; the problem is in MSFS)

Andy, As Dan said, often when you have an aircraft snaking about all over the magenta line, the issue usually turns out to be weather related. To see if this is the case, turn all weather off, eg, fine day etc so no winds are present. Then create a plan and see if the big girl will follow the magenta line without wandering all over the sky. If by turning off the weather you solve your problem, then most people have found by using a registered copy of FSUIPC you can smooth the wind/press/temps that keep knocking the big girl about. BTW...did you see the other post http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=271030. Similar problem to yours, only worse....Hope this works for you. let us know.Regards

I had this problem when I first started to fly the 744. It was a problem with the scenery library, just as it says in the link in the post above.I just rebuilt the scenery library from the main menu, and all was fine.
