Need tutorial on driver installation

Recommended Posts

Tried posting this in the Win 7 section, and so far noone seems to have a clue as to how a gpu driver is installed in Win 7. Been reading about how win 7 boots any attempt to install any other driver for gpu than the windows default driver. Seen a rather superficial description of the process, and I

Hmm, even in safe mode Win 7 is happy to announce that default gpu driver has successfully been installed right after boot-up. :( What am I missing here, there must be some additional function to be checked or unchecked?!

You wont get any image at all if Windows 7 cant install an generic default driver, just ignore it, its fine, you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Cheers, Andy.

By default I meant the MS Corp. WDDM v.1.1, so the instant I remove the driver the graphics go all coarse as expected. Then rebooting in safe mode for a sweep, tadaaa, the graphics are all high res. and the viral graphics driver is right back. So, it seems I still have a mountain to climb.Should I just trust in the MS issued driver? Is that what you are all doing?

What Andy said. You have to have a video driver or you won't have a display. When you remove the nVidia driver, Windows will install its default driver. It's not a problem having it there while you install the new one...in fact you'd be dead in the water without it. As for the higher res, the default Windows video driver on Win 7 and Vista supports higher resolutions than the old 640x480 one in XP.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

There are two graphics drivers at play here, one very basic, with rough graphics, it shows itself when I go to hardware manager and "remove" my graphics card. The other is self-installing during boot-up, and seems to support 4080 x 768 atm, and lists itself as WDDM v1.1). It is my belief, from what I

Well. That does surprize me somewhat. Wonder why all those posts would whip up so much fuss if it
