Need tutorial on driver installation

Tried posting this in the Win 7 section, and so far noone seems to have a clue as to how a gpu driver is installed in Win 7. Been reading about how win 7 boots any attempt to install any other driver for gpu than the windows default driver. Seen a rather superficial description of the process, and I

Hmm, even in safe mode Win 7 is happy to announce that default gpu driver has successfully been installed right after boot-up. :( What am I missing here, there must be some additional function to be checked or unchecked?!

You wont get any image at all if Windows 7 cant install an generic default driver, just ignore it, its fine, you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

By default I meant the MS Corp. WDDM v.1.1, so the instant I remove the driver the graphics go all coarse as expected. Then rebooting in safe mode for a sweep, tadaaa, the graphics are all high res. and the viral graphics driver is right back. So, it seems I still have a mountain to climb.Should I just trust in the MS issued driver? Is that what you are all doing?

What Andy said. You have to have a video driver or you won't have a display. When you remove the nVidia driver, Windows will install its default driver. It's not a problem having it there while you install the new one...in fact you'd be dead in the water without it.
