Starting to peice together my next upgrade

Im planning on upgrading my current e8600 (Which has served me well) to a new core i7.Its a little confusing with intels naming system. I need some help as to whether or not this would be a decent upgrade from my current e8600.This is what im thinking of getting. Please advise if this looks good. Im a little confussed as to what to get. Rob,I am with you on the bleeding edge remark. I have learned while searching for my upgrade that there are two paths that I think are equal in performance wise and they are as follows:1. Socket 1156 platform with the i7 860 CPU. This platform will be a good platform if you do not plan on upgrading your CPU in the next 2 years when 6 core processors are cheaper. In addition the 1156 does not allow the full SLI. If your rig is for FSX/FS9 only, then that is probably not a big issue, but if you are playing some of the other newer games that is something to think about.2. Socket 1366 platform with the i7 920 CPU. This is Intel's Golden Child, they plan to introduce the 6 core on it sometime this quarter. The 6 core is projected to run $1000 but we all know that in a year that will be cut in half and the year after when we are all looking to upgrade it will be $299. The 1366 also offers multiple x16 PCI-E slots so depending on which board you purchase you are going to be able to throw alot more Video into it. From my research I have come up with about a $100 difference between comparable systems. I like Jeremy's recommendation. That's a high performing base build, one that will last a while.That 6Gb of 1600 will allow you to easily overclock that 920 to over 4.0Ghz.
