Win 7 or XP?

Recommended Posts

I can get microsoft operating systems free through my school. My question is would it be worth it for me to upgrade from my Vista 32 bit to windows 7 or Windows XP, and would I benefit from upgrading from a 32 bit to a 64 bit? I get good frames right now with many add ons just looking for a slight boost. My computer specs are 3GB RAM 2.0 ghz processor and a 9500GT video card with 512mb. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Given your PC specs, I doubt that an upgrade will result in any significant performance increase. If you ever do run into the dreaded Out-Of-Memory error from running complex acft and scenery, then I'd go to Win 7 64 in a heartbeat and a half. That's the only improvement I'd expect with that configuration.CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I agree, I wouldn't upgrade with the thought of improving frames but stability may be a factor, and I recommend XP 64 all the way -- don't upgrade, go with a clean install. I upgraded to XP64 from the 32 bit version a couple of years ago to take advantage of it's stability for FS9 and it's superior memory handling capability in that it will recognize 4 gigs (and more) but it was a royal pain in the a--. Finding drivers for my MoBo, sound card and all other hardware was a bigger chore than I had prepared for.Personally, I wouldn't bother with Vista or Win7 either -- not for MSFS. I'm not sure there's any real advantage there. Some here will disagree, but I've got my XP disc in cryogenic freeze under lock and key, surrounded by armed guards, until I'm absolutely sure there's another, updated Flight Sim available for sale.
