Hi all.John, yes... I'll have a play with things this weekend and let you know. I have no net at home so must rely on memory (and perhaps better organisation in future) when posting questions. I might, as implied, have been wrong about circumstances. It pains me to admit this and look stupid especially as I just read through the thread 'Computer' in this forum...Chuck, yarr, you're right, P4 but I have 2Gb memory. I do need some better hardware though. I'm being something of a tightpocket as I just got the AGP graphics card a couple of months ago & can't find a better mobo now that has an AGP slot on it so I'll end up getting both at the same time when I (oh the pain) summon up the determination to part with the cash! The HD is 7200rpm SATA (no not SATA2!) and is a very recent (sshhh) purchase. It may end up being a ground-up new machine, one piece each month...Thanks for the help chaps & I'll keep you informed :( .

Dave,I have P4, 3.2 Ghz, 2 Gig Ram, AGP and WD 7200 RPM. I got a very good MB. It's from BioStar, which make very good boards. It's a P4M80-M4, MicroATX, Socket 478 (Celeron/Pentium), USB 2.0, and was $65 about 2 years ago, so might be $40 now (ck Amazon and NewEgg). It's AGP 8X, DDR400, SATA/RAID. Max is 2 gig though. I have a ATI RADEON X1300/1500 AGP 512 Mb card. Works good. Cheap, too. This rig is 'ideal' for FS9. I get 30 fps in FS9 and 20 fps in FSX. Of course I have tweaks for both cfgs-every little bit helps. I follow tips from 'NickN' (43 pages-printed it out) to the letter. He's the best. So your hardware is going to be 'ok' for FS9. Beats paying $1,000 (NUTS) and get SAME performance. Google 'NickN' and go forum for complete guide for tweaks.Chuck BNapamulePS: Be sure you get the BEST CPU paste you can find. Radio Shack has it. This is #1 concern, as a hot CPU can't perform and will take down the system with it when it goes. Or quit on you intermitently. Not pretty. Wear gloves, clean CPU surface with alcohol ONLY, let dry, then use a sandwich bag to smear paste out evenly and all over CPU surface. Use a TINY bit of paste. More is NOT good-ruins it. Be sure every board, mem stick, and cables are SEATED FULLY and SNUG. Get a fan for rear of case to exhaust heat. Enjoy the results. Very satisfying (to me). And get the XP SP2 disk so you can always do re-installs and fixes as needed. Pre-loaded operating system is ok, but is a drag when you upgrade to bigger hard drive (which we all do). I can afford a i7 920 system, but what for? For 30 fps? (I get that now-ha). Your smart-very smart (like me-hehe) to build your own and save the $$$$.

Well, I had a quick play on Friday night (don't I have anything better to do on a Friday night??) and discovered more odd behaviour. I'm sorry to say the bounce did occur with default aircraft (C172) and with all the add-on scenery libraries disabled. It's definitely more pronounced with some add-on aircraft but it does occur with wall-to-wall default libraries & aircraft. It occurs most often when the view switches from tower to spot.I tried to video it happening. The flight went well: I didn't go anywhere, just sat, shut down, on the apron at Nagoya. The videoing went OK but when I replayed it I got very little besides an oblique view of the concrete under the nosewheel (as I thought) and when I resumed the (static) flight, the plane was buried up to the wings and pointing nose up at 45

Hello,Make of Goggle your best friend of the internet :)This is some readings (it's a lot more on Google when you search for TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL )http://www.digital-flight.com/MSFS9_tips.htmhttp://www.fsgenesis.net/forum/index.php?topic=353.0http://forums1.avsim.net/lofiversion/index.php/t198617.htmlhttp://nzff.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=428http://www.visualflight.co.uk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1742BTW .. I use Genesis meshes and Vertex set to 21 .. and no problemsRegards.bye.gifGus.

So, my next question is what is TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL and what does it do? Maybe knowing that will point to what aspect of which add-on, or which slider setting, is causing the residual bounces. (I'm getting to really like the Dash 8.)
That is very interesting indeed, David.Others here may be able to tell you about that FS9.cfg entry better than I can, but I think for high quality mesh you need to set above the default to be able to appreciate it. Mine is set at 21 - but I'm not getting the unpleasant side-effects. I didn't think it did anything more than that, but in your case it certainly does.As for your Dash 8, I feel sure you could improve behaviour with adjustment of the contact points even if that isn't the only issue you have. It isn't an aircraft I use, but I have a feeling I have seen mention of it on a forum at least once. Maybe a search here or on the vendor's forum might come up with something.Best wishes,John

I tried to find the tips from 'NickN' as you suggested but have been unsuccessful. Would you be kind enough to provide the link that you found?gwillmot

My assistant Belga1 (where is Belga2, did he go to lunch?) will answer post questions addressed to me in the future. Perhaps?Want your aircraft to jump on loading. Put FS9 on pause. Aircraft on ground, and not moving. Load a different aircraft (while keeping sim on pause). Let aircraft show. Press 'P' to unpause. Did it jump? Mine did and does it everytime. So your mesh is 'meshed up'? If it was me I would do a repair to FS9. Might work. The higher the vertex the sharper the terrain (mesh) will BE or LOOK. For example a dry river bed (channel) will be partly 'filled in' if MVL is 19. If it's 21 it will have sharp, inclined banks and the bed (equal distantance from banks) will be twice as deep. I drive vehicles (military trucks, tanks, etc) and that is how I know about this difference. From the air you would then, suposedly, see 'sharper' edges and thus 'sharper' graphics.Chuck BNapamule

Hello,If you use a Dreamwings model (as I guess) .. please take time to read this :http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...p;hl=dreamwingshttp://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...p;hl=dreamwingsRegards.bye.gifGus.
Cool! Thanks belga1!! I downloaded and love the Dreamwings Dash 8 , but the problem with its extreme bouncing and pivoting was a glaring problem. I was running FsPassengers and they didn't like it when the plane bounced and pointed up on the pushback. :( :( I'm going to use your fix ASAP!!
