PMDG 737 NGX: The View Forward

Recommended Posts

hello everyone, I've been thinking about a review I`ve read in Avsim about the Ariane, the most remarkable thing in it was the mention of the exquisite flight dynamics, also it said that it was licensed by Boeing...all that makes me wonder how well will the 737 NGX is being developed in the area of flight dynamics. Any light on this?
Since it was me that wrote the AVSIM review, I'll throw a bit of light on this: The Ariane Design 737NG does indeed have a nice flight model; such opinions are of course always a bit subjective, but I certainly thought is was pretty good in most respects. However, the 'officially licensed by Boeing' status of such products can mean a lot of different things. The Ariane 737 is indeed produced under an official license from Boeing, which it really had to be if Ariane Design wanted to throw the Boeing logo about all over the place in relation to it, since that is Boeing's corporate trademark and they don't just let anyone use it. Boeing's reputation is based on certain core values and traditions. But, if I was prepared to pay Boeing for a product license, and guarantee to meet certain quality standards of print for example, I daresay I could produce a drinks coaster with the Boeing logo on it, and that too would be an 'officially licensed by Boeing' product. So with that in mind, I would not necessarily take the officially licensed Boeing status of the Ariane 737 to mean that Boeing think it is the bees knees as far as fidelity to the real thing goes.None of that should be taken to mean the Ariane is either good or bad in regard to how it flies or what it does, since what it does can be determined from the features listed on Ariane's blurb about it if anyone is curious, and as I say, opinions on the flight model will always be somewhat subjective, even though I personally liked it. In short, it does what it says on the tin, but just because that tin has the Boeing logo on it, that does not make it a Level 5 simulator.Al

Vin, thanks for the snippets...they look good. However there's only so much I can take away from a 'hidden camera close up type' shot. So errr......hows about an external shot...or perhaps one of the full VC? :(

Wow! Looks like I need to build another pc since my last one is out of commission. This definitely warrants it!

Ariane has NO sid/stars, unbelievable! If it wasn't for that I'd buy it just to keep myself happy until PMDGs work of perfection is released

Actually, the Ariane 737 does have SID/STARS on its FMC, just not an especially comprehensive complement of them. Some airports are very well served by them, others are not so great in that regard. Lots of German airports for example seem to have SIDS and STARS for them.It is actually possible to add them in manually to a flight plan too (with a bit of faffing around) so long as you know the geographical points at which the SID or STAR should be (which you can find if you have a suitable chart), although how you go about that is not in a completely realistic manner, since they do have to be part of the actual flight plan waypoints. Nevertheless, once you have them on a plan, you can save that plan and then the work is done. You can do that by creating waypoints which are offset from Navaids, so it certainly is possible to fly an automatic departure or arrival along the route of a SID or STAR, even if it is not in the FMC's database (as it is with all FMCs, not just the Ariane one). I know this because I have done exactly that by using the Aerodrome Booklet for EGCC to create the SIDS for that airport on some of my saved flight plans, by using that offset waypoint method for the routing. It is also possible to add the ISG Boeing FMC to the Ariane 737 too, which will also equip it with SIDS and STARS, although I only tried it out to see if it was possible, since I'm happy to use that offset method if I really want to fly a SID or STAR.This is of course not ideal, but to be completely fair, it is not correct to say it has no SIDS or STARS; that is simply not true. Just to confirm that is the case, here is the Ariane 737-900ER on the deck at EDDF, and unless my eyes are deceiving me, that appears to be a bunch of SIDS on its FMC, and you can see it has 12 pages of them for that airport:EDDFFMC.jpgNow, having said that, I have no doubt that the PMDG NG will be far and away a better simulation than this Ariane one in terms of completeness, and I'm in no way suggesting that the Ariane one is perfect, but it is nonetheless not very fair to make blanket, and quite evidently from that picture, inaccurate comments about a product you don't even possess. Notice there is a typo on the FMC though LOLAl

Well until you buy it and fly it you can not comment on certain aircraft.I recently bought the Ariance 737NG V2 just out of curiosity and because PMDG has kept me in the boiling water for so long :( In short I did not like it. And it was because I am spoiled by PMDG. Putting the Ariane 737NG v2 next to my MD-11 and J41 and even the grandpa 747 is just out of question. The Ariane 737 is just in a different league...An outdated Navdata and no support by the Navigraph is just one thing.Few bugs (not being fixed since the fist version years ago) and the blurry (in some areas) cockpit graphics made me feel like I have purchased a semi-completed product which never received the proper attention to the detail from its developer. So, if you like hand flying your 737 on some visual approaches you might enjoy. But for a complete simulation.. just waith for the PMDG. And I believe they are not gonna let us down. And hats down PMDG to your marketing approach. All this slides being released keep me on my toes already, my wallet ready to burst hehehe...P.S. One thing I have to addmit to Ariane is their amazing modeling from the outside
