I have some questions about Pentium 4

I'm thinking of getting a new computer...Pentium 4 1.6 GigaHZAsus P4B motherboardRight now I have a 250W power supply. Is that enough for a pentium 4 or do I need to go up to a 300W power supply. Thanks

Looked it up in the P4B manual (I have one, fine piece of equipment).Asus states 230W as minimum with 300W being strongly recommended.If the powersupply is older it may also not be P4 compatible (but the P4B has an option to use non-compatible supplies by plugging an extra 12V connector to the board to supply the extra power it needs).If you're going to put in few other things (only 1 harddisk and no CD burner for example) it should work, but otherwise it might get underpowered and unstable.

I recently upgraded my system to a P4 1.8 gig. Anticipating future upgrades (GeForce4 for example) I had a 400 watt power supply installed. You might want to check out the "Fast Systems" page at my site for more info.

I'd have to agree with the consensus here, go with a higher watt P/S. I upgraded to a P4 1.7 Ghz processor and Intel MoBo, and had to get a P/S with a P4 compliant plug. That aside, I would have gone to 350-400 watts just to be certain that I had enough power for everything in the system (Video Card, Processor, Hard Drives and CD Burner, etc.)Just my 2 cents.MikeKOCF
