[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...

I think what he meant Nick was why you put so many empty lines between paragraphs. Sometimes there are up to 5 empty lines between the start of a new paragraph. Like after you end a paragraph, you press the return key 5 times before starting a new sentence. I have often wondered this myself for the last few years but never gave any consideration to ask you why since it doesn't really make any difference.
That's what I meant, yes. It does indeed make no difference at all, haha, but as I said, I just had to ask. :( This post (image removed)...
I have no idea what you are talking aboutthis is an image of what I see with my post above if you see something different then that would be a prime example of why it is difficult at best to sort out issues across a span of hardware and OS/driversIf what I posted above looks correct and matches my original post then I have no clue what it is you see that is wrongof course if the image and what I posted match then that may explain a few things with settings and FSX results you see too :(J/K
...should look something like this if posted by anyone else.

See the difference? I don't know why I bother, but well... :( And btw this all may also explain a few things about your FSX-results... (I tried to think of a funnier remark than this copy of yours (something to do with using too much bandwidth or something like that), but I couldn't come up with a real funny one. Yet. :( )

Keeping it OFF TOPIC:I prefer Nicks style with tripple CR-LF to separate paragraps compared to people not dividing up a text in paragraphs to help the reader to distinguish a change of subject or a view on the subject. But more than a tripple CR-LF would be too much if used often in posts. I've read some posts by Nick with about 10 empty lines at the end, followed by a good punch line. That's art IMO :(Another aspect on a lot of space between paragaphs. A couple of empty lines will enable you to more easily read a hole paragraph, or couple of paragraphs, with just one quick glance at the text. That is if your'e a well trained reader and let your subconscious and brain do all the work for you.You do rmmeebr taht yuor biarn may raed tihs txet if eervy wrod bgneis and edns wtih the croerct carhtacer? :(

I've refrained from using the The DPC Latency checker thus far with the BP=0 setting because I have not experienced any anomlies while running FSX that would indicate high latency. However, this evening, just for kicks I performed mutiple runs in FSX with bufferpools set to 0, 4MB, 10MB, 50MB and 100MB while utilizing the DPC Latency Checker and as I would expect had the same results as Ulf. The latecncy was excellent and consistent across the different bufferpool settings. As I posted above, in a given situation with BP=0 flight is smooth anything else will result in some form of stutter/microstutter occuring some where during the flight. Thus far I only think the DPC Latency Tool is going to prove to some that they have latency issues and massaging the BP entry can reduce that latency for them. On the other hand the tool does nothing to explain why I get better performance with BP=0 on my system and Ulf gets better performance with a BP=10000000 on his system.Nils,I am curious as to exactly what your hardware specs are? I had the exact same problem when pushing FSX very hard when I was running a QX9650 on a Asus P5E3 Premiuim (The same CPU and MOBO combo Noel has issues with). Since going to an i7 and a P6T Deluxe v2 the issue is gone (all the other hardware in the computer is the same with the exception of the memory).
Thanks for testing! My system: Q9550 @3.5GHz|Gigabyte X38-DQ6|Gainward GTX260|4GB Kingston HyperX|Windows 7 64I know Gigabyte has a bad reputation regarding DPC Latency (unfortunately a lot of blaming but no real facts) but i never noticed any problems until i upgraded to Win7 and from my E8400 to the Q9550.I always thought that tweaking is BS and i did always recommend others to just use the sliders but now i need it to use FSX.Are there C2Q user without DPC Latency issues OR i5/i7 user with DPC Latency issues, in combination with Win7, Nvidia an FSX?Thanks

Maybe off topic, but in the old days, sound crackle was usually due to Bus Mastering on the PCI bus. Adaptec cards were known to cause interference with Creative cards going way back. One possible fix is to disable Bus Mastering in Bios but it could also be an issue with shared DMA memory.jja

After 12,500 or so hits on this thread...the bottom line?BufferPools=0 works to smooth out animation performance (no stutters, or almost (99 %) no stutters) on systems with the hardware/OS/BIOS combo to let the setting work. The parsing is over. You either have the combo above to see dramatic results, or you don't.But if you do...and I seem to have the 'right stuff'....it has been the best 'tweak setting' so far since having bought FSX. Thanks to the original poster for putting this out there, and to the absolute origin (person) for having found this quirk.Post Edit: Now, I don't know if the following makes any difference or not, but I have this .cfg entry as the TOP and first thing parsed by FSX when it initializes the .cfg file. I know that setting works for me. If you have this setting anywhere else within your .cfg file, then perhaps make it the first entry and see if that changes anything for you.Mitch

Works great on my XP install. On the Win7 install same PC its poor.Just like one would expect from FSX :)

Now THAT'S funny! :(

Hi,Well, you got me thinking, so I decided to run some tests myself. I do not see much if/any difference between any BP settings and Latency. I did notice an FPS drop if I used anything other than a BP setting of zero.test11.jpgtest12.jpgtest13.jpgtest14.jpgtest21.jpgtest22.jpgtest23.jpg

Yea the first slide is what I get. If oclk'd to 4.2ghz then the cpu comes down to ... well lower anyway.Probably a stupid programmer trick.jja

I had just installed FSX for the first time yesterday. I have a Windows 7 64-bit PRO (OEM) system. My RAM yesterday was 2GB - 2 x 1GB sticks of Corsair TwinX 9-9-9-24 matched pair. I was definitely getting stutters in spot view (not when inside in 2D cockpit view, only in spot view). The new RAM I ordered arrived today and it is Kingston HyperX 2 x 2GB (4GB total) AT 7-7-7-20 latency. I had to manually set the latency in the BIOS as for some reason, my ASUS detected it to be the same as my previous RAM latencies. After booting into Win7, I re-ran its "detailed" performance assessment which is not just the basic one, but includes DirectX component tests and others which are not included in the basic test. NO STUTTERS AT ALL AND ALMOST EVERYTHING IS MAXED OUT IN FSX! I can't believe it. I was sure the RAM would make little difference after reading this thread and I was preparing to install FSX into my WinXP 32-bit. My frame rates are not fast, of course, since maxing out slows things down but they are still very decent at 12-25fps. However, no add-ons at all yet. I also have SP1 for FSX. I had ordered the Gold edition which includes the add-on acceleration pack and SP2 but I had not installed it yet. I flew for 15-20 minutes over NYC, took off from KJFK, circled around, flew directly over NY and over to Newark Liberty airport. I had done the SAME trip this morning before I had changed my RAM and re-ran that Win7 performance test and there were bad stutters. The problem is, I can't figure out how to get to the "detailed" performance screen which re-assessed my system. Since Win7 detected that I had replaced my RAM, it automatically popped up with a window where there was a link to discard old data and re-run a complete system performance review. When I find it, I'll post it here.Perhaps the issue may also be related to this performance assessment tool of Win7. It looks like Windows 7 organizes its performance management automatically and this may be seriously hurting proper FSX functioning.Hope this may help some of you. John

Welcome to FSX John. Glad you are here! :(
Welcome to FSX John. Glad you are here! :(
Thanks SpiritFlyer. That was a really nice thing to say! It is a great pleasure and frankly, an honour to "re-join" the flightsim community. And FSX is looking very promising right now! Here is that performance rating path in Win7 for those of you who may want to try it. The screenshot is below and it is the top-most option which does this detailed re-rating. I did not try FSX before this performance rating, though, but based on what I've read in several threads, I don't believe that would have made a big difference in the stutters.By the way, I DID also install the latest NVidia graphics drivers - 196.21 but these were already installed last night when I had the stutters, so this is just an FYI ...If anyone has any questions at all, to clarify anything or for more detail, please do not hesitate to ask me.John

Hi,Two additional tests.
Thanks Mike That helps establish some W7 users are not seeing any latency problem but are seeing a benefit :(
