[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...

Whole evening today, going in and out of the sim, flying for 30min-1h, testing:BP=0TBM=70FPS Lock=25Not a single glitch. Very smooth (though I don't like 25, but it'S "OK"). Maybe I found my G-Spot? :(

*******,What does all this mean?Does it mean that we should all consider a 2 gig nvidia card? This should avoid memory starvation. The Vapor X 5870 I recently acquired ain't cutting it.

Jose, does reducing (locking) your FPS to 25 eliminate the spikes? can you also try to increase you TBM to 80-90 and test? I think Word Not Allowed is having good results with that.

I'll give it a shot.I have removed the 5870 and have the gtx 285 in and running.I apologize if it seems odd, but I'm simply amazed. This is the way my system is supposed to run. Except for these damn spike and scenery flashes. :(

Do you have hyperthreading on or off?

HT is of.I tried to lock the fps and TBM at 80-90 and I did notice a major improvement. Less flashes and no spikes. But, I did get the black screen.I played with it for over an hour and just decided to go back to my trusty 182.50.I'll just have to wait until there's a new driver that works with my system. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Like I wrote before I have good results with TBM=100 and BP=0.I also tried TBM=120 ; performance is the same as with 100.My NVidia drivers are 196.21.LOD=6.5Framerates locked at 24.Autogen =Very Dense --> buildings=1500 / Trees=1000Max texture load =20483 screens in 4320x900AA=4xAF=16

Okay, well, here is my final verdict and my final setup. For now. :( BP=0TBM=120That's it, that's all. I use no more (performance) tweaks than these two. I did try the shader hack last week but restored everything to default again, but who knows... maybe something has changed nonetheless, because after reverting back to the original situation (the hack itself seemed to five a lot of artifacts), I hardly got any artifacts anymore. Every now and then (after something like 20 to 30 minutes) there is a spike or a missing texture, but switching to windowed mode and back again solves this and after that things are cool again (until touchdown: most of my flights take 30 to 45 minutes).I have flown with these settings a few days now and things are looking better than ever before. I solely fly above PNW: fps is a constant 25 (my max with the limiter) above rural area's and bush, above huge cities it drops to 19 or so, which is okay if you do not look around too much (TrackIR here!). But even when you do, all is okay when you keep the view steady. But as I said earlier, I usually fly above the bush etc. it's absolutely amazing...!And o yes, quite important: I have autogen at Extremely dense. And no autogen tweaks at all! My scenery settings are all completely to the right, except Mesh res at 2 m and Water at High 2.x (so both just one notch to the left). I said it before and I'll say it again: it's absolutely amazing how good it all looks and performs on my i7 [email protected] (stock cooler), GTX285 (driver 196.21) and 6 Gb RAM (rather slow ram btw).So right now I am very happy with this BP=0 thread! :(EDIT:TBM could as well be at 80 or something like that, because I can hardly notice a difference with various TBM-settings. But since this one works right now, I just keep it.EDIT 2:I almost only fly the Carenado C182RG: that also helps with performance, of course...!

The airplane you are flying is important, something small like that Cessna won't eat up as much horsepower from the system as flying, say, a PMDG 747I really only fly the PMDG 747 and the Eaglesoft Citation X. Looking to pickup the latest Carenado offering soon though. I think a high TBM setting on the pmdg or eaglesoft plane would lead to disasterThanks for the tests I noticed good performance with bp to 0 and tbm to 80 on the eaglesoft in a quick test, not a long flight though. I also use texture max load to 4096 for my rex2 textures, lod to 8.5, and run ase in the background for weather. almost all sliders maxed except for water

Do you have hyperthreading on or off?
On.

For my 1gb 4870 I found the sweet spot for me is 200 BPs I have no ideal why the lower numbers seems to do so much better for most of us.But thanks for the post. The blurries seem to go by the wayside also with this tweek.

I see no performance increase at all like some say. BP=0 gives me way too many spikes and an eventual Black screen when I fly my PMDG-747 into FSDT Kord or other dense scenery at 1920x1200 and 8xAABP=5000000 works best for me or even just leaving the line out my sim is smooth and get no spikes no matter where I fly.Is this because I have a 2gb 285GTX card and the 1GB memory is a bit faster, or do I need a new ATI card?

Alright... after reading this epic novel now for the last week or so I decided to give it a try. Now I dont have one of the mega ram VC but it has 896mb of ram. I decided to test this in a area that I have struggled with (EHAM) and was pleased with what I saw. I did not see any FPS increase but experienced a smoother sim. This was with very dense ag and very dense scenery. At EHAM with those settings I get random mini surges but with BP @ 0 they were significantly reduced but not totally eliminated but good enough for me to pursue testing. At first I had a TBM of 70 and I experienced AG spikes. I then set it to a TBM of 40 and the spikes were eliminated. I actually never saw anything conclusive that a higher TBM did anything for me as I dont get the blurries on my i7 even with a TBM of 40. I then decided to put it to a high memory intensive test flying from KCLT to KATL using payware airport scenery with very dense ag and scenery settings. I flew this in the LevelD 767. I gotta say it was a nice smoothe flight and was able to maintain 18 FPS on final/landing at KATL even with 75% commercial traffic, 25% GA (UT2). I experienced no video artifacts whatsoever. I plan to use the tweek for a while and see how it goes. One other thing I noticed and maybe I just have missed it in the past but when flying towards ATL the entire downtown skyline od buildings popped in all at once (every building) and I dont recall that to happen in the past but they would add in a few at a time. I feel this tweek has some merit to it.2010-3-12_21-52-51-718.jpg

Nice report, but that looks realy too blurry for me. What screen size and what lod are you using?

22" Widescreen with max (not tweeked) LOD. I know.. it is a low res image. If you look at my Radar Contact window in the lower left when in the sim the text is very clear. That should give you a gauge what the compression did to the shot plus the weather was a bit hazey and that was taken at I think 9 or 10,000 alt.
