[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...

BP=0 totally messes me up with memory starvation. nVidia 285, 1 gig.
Can you give BP=3072 a try? I know that reading through 600 posts can be confusing, but I think it was mentioned that it gave the exact performance benefit of BP=0 without any glitches of any kind... I don't know if its true, because BP=0 is already stable for me, but It wouldn hurt if you try BP=3072and see if there is any difference.

Calm yourself Word Not Allowed, :( I think what he was trying to say was that with 24 pages and almost 600 post later, including the misleading title, there isn't anything new being posted that already hasn't been posted, so its exactly what he said = YMMV. :( Frankly I 3rd it to be shut down, Or if anything the MODs could have provided some help in the beginning by renaming the misleading subject title. :( however we do need someplace to hide the garbage, lord knows we dont need a any more BP=0 threads to open up. :(Anyways, for most of you higher end I7 users the real clue to eliminating stutters that has nothing to do with the software has already been alluded to by Peter Dawson and Flyingbits but unfortunately for some got ignored (memory & QPI:Uncore).
Where is the information you mentioned from Peter Dawson and Flyingbits?

Cool Beans!! I'll give it a try.jja
Hi,I agree, keep the forum topic open, for those that don't want to read any posts in this 600 post topic, don't mouse click on this topic anymore. Easy enough, and for those of us intrested in continuing forward will have an opportunity to do so.
I agree Mike,I don't watch the soaps to find out what happens in the latest episode, so this is the next best thing. "Tune in tomorrow, same time, same place, to find out what unexpected and surprising changes take place!"Stephen

Yeah, maybe by tomorrow the tweek will have helped 12 people out of the 20 thousand + that have looked at this. :(

Better than no help at all, wouldn't you agree?

Little less FPS on unlimited (around 5%), but more autogen spikes. Proves once again how computers are different ;-)I'm really starting to think it's more about the hardware than software. I've never seen such problems with other hardware, it was only *slower*. Now that it's faster, a problem... I do question both sides.

The biggest problem is we still don't really know how to get BP=0 working well. I got it working well on my computer (as I said, it's as if I have gotten a brand new computer for free), but I don't know how I did it... I did try various things and suddenly it worked (with settings that didn't seem to work before). Problem is that I do not dare to change anything on my computer now (I have all automatic updates off!). I will keep the specific setup I have now for quite some time, maybe years. :( Luckily I have a FSX dedicated system (dual boot with my regular system) on a seperate SSD, so keeping this system as it is, isn't a big problem.I thought about starting all lover again, repeating all steps I did, just to find out what got it working, but I am too afraid I won't be able to get this performance again... :( Sorry! :( I do know however that just before everything started to work great, I tried the Shaders hack. It didn't work, so I restored the old situation. And after that (or shortly after that) BP=0 worked without almost any artifacts and I have a steady performance with Extremely dense autogen.BTW I also love this topic: it feels like home. Please don't close it. You might want to make a seperate subforum for it...! B)

Hi,Silently I have been following this topic (yes, it was me...) :( . I only started playing with FSX two months ago. But once one does, the tweaking starts as well.... :( I have been trying the different settings you guys mention and at this stage BP-0 is my favourite.Trying to learn a bit more about the different tweaks I searched on the internet what

Hi Menno,Not sure if you just abbreviated some of the settings you listed for the forum or if you have it like that in your config file. If it's as you listed, it more than likely is doing nothing to FSX and is being ignored. This is what I have in my fsx.cfg file. Don't worry and/or use my settings they may not work for you, but the control statements (for lack of better words) should be as follows.[Graphics]Texture_Max_Load=4096[bufferPools]PoolSize=500000[Display]Texture_Bandwidth_Mult=70ForceFullScreenVSync=TRUEForceVSync=TRUE[JobScheduler]AffinityMask=15

TBM=400- for FSX?This is a FS9 setting, and your link points to exactly that: FS9!The texture max load setting looks strange I must say...

I too have been following this topic in silence and seen a vast improvement in performance and smoothness using BP=0.However, the texture flashing and autogen tree spikes were just too annoying. Going back to any BP settings above 0 just introduced horrible stutters using the PNW demo and the Real Air Duke. So, on the off chance (and since this thread is all about throwing out the rule book), I enabled SLI so that both GTX 285's on my system were running to provide Alternative Frame Rending with a BP of zero. I wasn't holding my breath, since SLI had always caused stutters. To my amazement, the smoothness remained and low and behold, the texture flashing and autogen spiking had stopped. I rebooted, went to an area that always spiked and texture flashed and everything is fine. I had tried BP=0 for about a week and was always getting spikes and texture flashing, so I repeated the SLI test several times. Flew for a few more hours and everything is just awesome now. Its like I just had a free system upgrade. Woo Hoooo!I'm running settings as per PNW manual at TH2G 3840x1024 resolution with Very Dense autogen. I'm very happy :(

Stevio,If you are running PNW at the recommended settings now and getting great performance, you might want to try this also (depending on what you have these settings at and the cloud textures you are using):1. PNW manual setting for FSX Weather setting of Cloud Coverage Density is "Low". That can give you a non-realistic cloud coverage for things like overcast or some "extreme" weather themes, including a couple of the weather themes included with PNW. Try moving the "Cloud Coverage Density" slider farther right. You will probably get away with it now. 2. If you are using High Definition Cloud textures (like the REX or FEX 4096 cloud textures) and moving the slider farther to the right has a negative impact on your performance, try loading the 2048 resolution cloud textures that come with these products. You will not really notice any difference in the cloud displays, and you can get a much higher cloud coverage density with them with less system impact. You should be able to do the above. I'm running 4096 cloud textures at Cloud Coverage Density slider fully right with only one GTX285, on a Digital TH2G at 5040 x 1050 resolution. Smooth as silk with the rest of the settings per the PNW manual. With you only at 3840 x 1024, you should be able to do it now easily, too.

Hi Michael,Thank you for your reply. Yes, I did abbreviate them. And TextureMaxLoad should be of course written like TextureMaxLoad=10. (new keyboard)I noticed your syntax is different. Don
