FSX and my new machine

Recommended Posts

Gents,I just put together a new desktop in hope that it would be able to run FSX very smooth, but disappointedly, I was not able to exceed 13 fps with all slide to set 50%, and less than 9 fps when I have all slides set to max depending on which part I

Hi Fido,Strange that. I run all sliders to the right except autogen back a single notch with 24-30 FPS everywhere over just about anything. Perhaps overclock your CPU and keep experimenting, but do all of Nick's suggestions exactly. With that hardware you should have at least double that. Stephen
Hi matealso with your Nvidia card ,download and setup Nhancer(latest version)as per NICKN's instructions..you will find his FSX setup page here. http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_topics.asp?FID=38setup FSX exactly as he says.also look at GEX texture packages(he's one of the designers)they will also improve your Frame rates. good luck with it steve-O

Hiwell firstly I'd say you have a better pc spec than mine and I get a stable 30fps or so.Things I've done to get fsx running smoother are listed below. I would also recommend getting windows 7 64bit if you can as this has improved things for me, anyway to the list,1. Install fsx strictly to nickn guide, however I have recently removed the fsx.cfg tweaks as I read windows 7 doesn't need them. How true this is I don't know but it's working for me.2. Overclock my pc to increase CPU performance3. install a good 1tb hdd (I notice you have too)4. Use fps limiter5. Use nhancer (which you have too)6. Defrag defrag defrag7. Take off all the crap your pc doesn't need or can do without8. Use a gadget I can't remember the name of to tidy up your scenery cfg file9. Look after your pc, meaning good housekeepingthat's not a do or don't guide it's just what I have done to get fsxworking well. Obviously this is gonna vary for everyone Oh and one other thing to think about, if you have recently built this pc, it may be worth just checking that all of your components/software are working ok. Im pretty sure you would know if they arent, but reading on other forums about computer performance etc. People do occasionally have problems that hinder performance of other software.

Here is my variation of the list :( :

1. Install fsx strictly to nickn guide, however I have recently removed the fsx.cfg tweaks as I read windows 7 doesn't need them. How true this is I don't know but it's working for me.2. Overclock my pc to increase CPU performance3. install a good 1tb hdd (I notice you have too) Get an SSD4. Use fps limiter5. Use nhancer (which you have too)6. Defrag defrag defrag Forget about defrag because of the SSD7. Take off all the crap your pc doesn't need or can do without8. Use a gadget I can't remember the name of to tidy up your scenery cfg file9. Look after your pc, meaning good housekeeping

Your sig shows your pc is running at 3gigs, mine is i7975 running at 4.2 gigs and i dont i have sliders at full. You need to get close to 4 gigs before you can start to expect major smooth fps.
