CLS 767 - Big Thumbs Up

Recommended Posts

I just got the CLS 767, and I reckon it could have the most realistic flight dynamics of any airliner I've ever flown in FS. No small claim, but the sense of weight and inertia is incredibly good. Just getting it off the ground feels like an achievement, and the sensation of 'heaviness', stability and 'slow to respond-ness' on approach seems spot on. How accurate that feel is I have no idea, but I like it, and I wouldn't mind betting it's not far off the real thing. It looks good and sounds fantastic too.I don't care if it's 'lite' in the systems department. I'm much more interested in general handling. I haven't bothered with the AP yet - just manual visual approaches. I recommend that everyone with an interest in airliners tries this one. Terrific job CLS. :( Ian(Not a CLS employee, just a satisfied customer blah blah...)

Honestly, The real thing is anything but slow to respond and heavy even at MTOW & MLW. I find so many companies get that wrong because simmers 'expect' the aircraft to feel a certain way. I see you also live in London, the BA Sims are not that expensive, you should book some time to get an idea how these machines really feel, even if it's a once in a lifetime thing. You wont regret it.

Well, I actually won a ride in the 747-200 sim at Heathrow, many years ago now, as a raffle prize. As far as I can remember, it felt pretty similar. But it was before I'd discovered FS or real GA flying though, and my landings weren't very good! :( I'm not talking about the effectiveness of the controls per se - I know for example the 767's roll rate, like that of other airliners, is a lot better than you'd expect for an aircraft that size - but more the feeling of weight and inertia which I think this particular FDE gives you. It makes you feel that control surfaces are actually working against something, and that the aircraft's responses are not instantaneous. I think this is important when only using a lightweight joystick. Tricky subject this, and half the problem is explaining...Ian

I understand what you are saying, and I'm happy for you that you're glad with your purchase, but as others said, that's not really the way the 767 is supposed to feel. I don't have any real flying time with a 767, but from what I hear it's not a plane that responds slowly to anything. And for as far as one can trust the LDS767's FDE and CS's FDE, these both are planes that handle surprisingly easy. The 747-200 is an old plane, and you'd expect it to feel heavy; the 767 can't really be compared to the 747-200 though! However, the main point, I think, is that you're happy! You want to feel what a heavy plane is like? If you have FS2004, you should get the Project Tupolev Tu-154. Now THAT's a heavy plane!
