Smartassembly?

Recommended Posts

After many, many years in the FS world I've just received a new problem. After I load FSX and try to load or create an FS flight plan, the system locks up. Not a crash to desktop just a freeze. In order to get out of this situation I use alt/ctrl/del. Once back at my home screen an error message appears as follows: "This feature requires that (smartassembly) is available on this computer".There is no error number, just the text as listed. Further, if I load my default aircraft, go to the airport I would use in the flight plan and then try to open the flight plan it sometimes works. Otherwise, FSX works just fine without any problems but without the planner could be a problem. I've never seen this error message, never seen it on any forum and have no idea what "smartassembly" is or what function it's supposed to perform. I hope that someone out there has knowldge of this and can help me fix whatever needs to be fixed.FSX SP2Dell Dimension 9100, SP 3, 3.5 g RamJack

It's to do with Windows .NET Framework i believe.Try updating or re-installing the .NET Framework on your computer and see if that fixes the issue.

Carl...........Thanks for your input. I re-installed .NET Framework 3.5 and 3.5 SP1. That was the correct solution. Seems to be working just fine, now. You've made me smarter than I was when I woke up this morning. Thank you.Jack

Hi,I just encountered the same problem under Windows 7 64 Home Premium. However, because .NET is now part of the operating system I can't uninstall it or re-install it. I have been researching the problem on-line but have been unable to find a solution. I also started getting an "MS Trebuchet" font warning when trying to start ASX that I believe may be .NET related as well. I can't run FSX now and am desperate for a solution. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

Got the smart assemble error again - 4 months later. Is the error a constant problem? This is the first time I have seen it since the last post. I have flow several time since the second occurrence without problems.

No fix with that procedure.

Reinstalled Visual Basic C++ 2008, This seems to have done the trick. I just completed a 13 hour KBOS-RJAA flight in PMDG MD11, with over 100 menu accesses, both right clicking, and alt menus. Now to test in the USA

I get it periodically after something clogs up or hangs in FSX. I usually just reboot the machine and it goes away.
