Smartassembly?

Recommended Posts

I get it periodically after something clogs up or hangs in FSX. I usually just reboot the machine and it goes away.
Same here. I think I saw it the last time when I tried to shut down the computer with FSX running. No issue after reboot.

Reinstalled Visual Basic C++ 2008, This seems to have done the trick. I just completed a 13 hour KBOS-RJAA flight in PMDG MD11, with over 100 menu accesses, both right clicking, and alt menus. Now to test in the USA
hm, just got this smart assembly error, too, the first time. no idea why and where from but I do remember that I installed some 3rd party aircraft recently which prompted to install the visual basic. I guess it was the PMDG MD11 and/or B747. Anyway, in one case I could skip the install and in another case the installer just installed something which looked like visual basic to me. will now try to run the 2008 version and see whether that fixes my problem...philhaving said the above I just realize that my UT2 traffic is gone... hope that'll be fixed by the vb 2008 reinstall

After many, many years in the FS world I've just received a new problem. After I load FSX and try to load or create an FS flight plan, the system locks up. Not a crash to desktop just a freeze. In order to get out of this situation I use alt/ctrl/del. Once back at my home screen an error message appears as follows: "This feature requires that (smartassembly) is available on this computer".There is no error number, just the text as listed. Further, if I load my default aircraft, go to the airport I would use in the flight plan and then try to open the flight plan it sometimes works. Otherwise, FSX works just fine without any problems but without the planner could be a problem. I've never seen this error message, never seen it on any forum and have no idea what "smartassembly" is or what function it's supposed to perform. I hope that someone out there has knowldge of this and can help me fix whatever needs to be fixed.FSX SP2Dell Dimension 9100, SP 3, 3.5 g RamJack
Actually in combination with for example UT2 and AES it's wise to give FSX the time to settle and load all the stuff via sim connect, other wise there is a battle for priority and one software piece will timeout with that particular error message....What I do for example is wait for UT2 loaded all the stuff and AES and then load the aircraft of choice :-)

Hi this is now happening to me on my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system with SP1. I did a clean install of everything. I have several entries of  .NET 3.5 and sp1 and also 4.5. should I uninstall 4.5?

This might help some.  The following is a quote from the AVSIM CTD Guide:

Make sure required Microsoft.net Framework Packages are installed and up-to-date - The appropriate Microsoft.net Framework packages are normally installed when you first install FSX/Acceleration/P3D and commercial add-on programs if the appropriate package is not found.  You will need versions 1.1 through the latest. You can see what versions are installed by going to your Windows Explorer and look for Windows/Microsoft.net/Framework/(then the versions installed). Once the packages are installed, Windows Update will periodically update the packages.  You can verify whether your versions are properly installed and up-to-date by using the .Net Framework Setup Verification Tool User's Guide.  Microsoft.net packages are used by developers to make sure the program runs in the way they intended, including memory management. The packages are, for the most part, not backward compatible.

Best regards,

Jim

You get a smart assembly error because of a missed hook. Not necessarily the net framework itself. Generally, it missed a simconnect hook for some reason. You may need FSX SP2.

Carl...........Thanks for your input. I re-installed .NET Framework 3.5 and 3.5 SP1. That was the correct solution. Seems to be working just fine, now. You've made me smarter than I was when I woke up this morning. Thank you.Jack

Are you using the latest UT update? That could the problem. I just found out that it is raising h*** with SuperTrafficBoard, and I have to install a service pack for that. So Ultimate Traffic V2.10 could be the problem. Try uninstalling Ultimate Traffic, if using V2.10 or later. That might be your problem.
