Do you overclock? If so, then it may be worthwhile. Otherwise, don't bother.
I am doing 3.0 ghz, motherboard is Eclipse X58.

3GHz isn't enough to really justify faster RAM speed. If you want to push it up to 3.6 or higher then go ahead and get the faster RAM.

Thanks, I can't seem to get 3.2 stable. Probably because of the heatstink/fan is stock.

That's quite likely. Those i7s run really hot. They seem to require a very firm mounting mechanism too as even a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer isn't enough to keep load temps out of the 70's/80's on my roommate's i7 920, even @ stock. Stress tests put the load temps to maximum (100 degrees) immediately as well.
