Sound of Silence

Featured Replies

Here's some FS9 weirdness that I've never experienced before. I have a fresh install of FS9 on a new computer which has been up and running for about a week. Today, when switching to spot plane view, there was no engine sound on the default C-182 I was flying. Sound is fine in VC and 2D mode, just not spot plane mode. Also, it appears to be just the engine sound is out. I deployed a notch of flaps while in spot plane view and could hear the servo motor whir while the flaps extended. I changed planes while in flight (Carenado C-210 and Piper Dakota), both of which played engine sounds just fine in spot view. However, I also noticed the same anomaly in a Jet Cities B-717 freeware aircraft model.Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Go into your c182 folder in the Aircraft folder and check under sounds to see if any of the files are there or if the sound.cfg is there and properly configured. Somebody else in the forum could probably help you correct your files if something is amiss I sadly cannot because fs9 is not my computer as of present. (BTW nice Simon and Garfunkel reference :( )

*** Update ***Seems this problem extends past that which I originally thought. Now I've found that ATC communications are no longer audible either, regardless of aircraft. While I still can transmit requests and acknowledgments to and from ATC, I can no longer hear myself speaking nor any audible reply or instruction from ATC. I can only see the progress of the communication in the text window when hitting the [`] button.

Could it possibly be a sound card problem?Try checking out Device Manager and seeing if it's still showing up correctly.Either that or some sort of sound related FS file has been corrupted or misplaced. Another suggestion may be doing a System Restore although that may not work for you

Hi, Simmer,I checked the device manager which reported no problems. Regardless, I decided to uninstall and re-install the mobo sound driver (Realtek HD Audio). Voila, the sounds are back! However, that doesn't address why things went south in the first place, but contemplating that can drive a person crazy. Anyway, let's see what happens.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you! Sometimes audio drivers just don't work right for whatever reason... but hopefully the reinstall will keep things in line!
