Thanks Chris Willis.. FS2k4 tip...

Chris wrote:"The impostor was made for the performance, but you can easly fix this by using the clouds distant to at least 40 mil and the clouds percentage to 90/100%."This tip helped me boost my framerates above 12,000ft. By doing this caused clouds to form and dissipate as I fly through them. It seems by having the cloud distant setting to 40 causes clouds to form as you approach them (they would just appear out of nowhere in FS2k2) which was not happening when I had this slider maxed out (clouds couldn't form because they were already drawn). This actually made the sky seem to come alive which is kind of cool... I'm testing now to see if a storm cell will form like this...

I don't use any of the imposter clouds myself. I didn't see a fps benefit....Here's another tip for overcast skies without having to set up multiple layers: --The thicker the layer, the more "real" the overcast looks. Try setting up a 3000 ft. thick layer of stratus to see what I mean. The best way to set up the clouds (IMHO) is to max all the weather display sliders, and only manipulate cloud draw distance to adjust clouds vs. what your system can support. For me, about 40-50 miles looks the best, but my performance suffers a bit. I have to settle for 30 miles, given my slower system. If you do set up your cloud draw distance to 50 miles, and limit your visibility to 50 miles, the effect looks quite cool--clouds extending as far as the eye can see. Wait til the screenshots forum gets activated again. Then, you'll get to see my Martian sky set for FS2004 :)-JOhn
