I wish there was good scenery for Philly. March 1, 201016 yr My Favortite's are LOWW-LOWI (interresting approach) or LOWS - EDDF or LOWW - LFPGthese Routes are rather short, so quite flyable :( best regards, Alexander Barger
March 1, 201016 yr This is an excellent thread, also does anybody know of some good "mountainous" flights/approaches for a 737?Thanks,Jeff Johnson Jeff Johnson
March 1, 201016 yr This is an excellent thread, also does anybody know of some good "mountainous" flights/approaches for a 737?Thanks,Jeff JohnsonMiami (KMIA) - Cali, Columbia (SKCL) is an American Airlines 737-800 service.Around Cali is a fairly mountainous area, and as demonstrated by that American Airlines crash a bit over ten years ago (it was then a 757 service), it is important to maintain situational awareness.Cheers,Rudy
March 1, 201016 yr Jeff, check out LOWI Approach in Austria. You dive through cloudes down into a valley where you have to do a circle approach - around the plane are mountans and mountans and mountans.... - it is really challenging :( best regards, Alexander Barger
March 1, 201016 yr I recommend making Zurich (LSZH) your base for a short while. There are dozens of approaches and departures to try of all different types, with and without the need for terrain awerness, and there are dozens of the worlds great airports within an hour or two flight time, plus (if thats your buzz) some of the worlds busiest air traffic control regions. The scenery is not bad either. Paul Smith.
March 1, 201016 yr I only can second Paul's recommendation: LSZH! - Very nice airport in real life with a very nice scenery from FSDT- Interesting landscape around the airport (the Alps to the South)- Very interesting SID/STARS to fly- All major European Airports near by and most likely you get descent scenery for those airports (FS9 and FSX)- Good ATC coverage on both networks (IVAO and VATSIM)/Norbert Plate
March 1, 201016 yr As I'm rarin' to try out my recently aquired knowledge of programming the FMC I thought it could be interesting to exchange favourite routes. The requirements: timing of about an hour and a half (or less) and a STAR available at the destination. My choice would be KLAS to KSFOCliff HarrisOne of my favorites is LFMN to EGLL. I started flying it because BA 357 used it for a 744 route (since cancelled), and kept flying it for a variety of reasons. The SIDs out of LFMN are interesting to fly (lots of noise abatement turns and the like) and Heathrow is Heathrow. Plus the scenery is great. The route I use:OKTET UM733 GIPNO UM733 KOPOR UT426 DIMAL UT420 ALESO OKTET is the end of several SIDs and ALESO feeds into several of the EGLL STAR sets. March 1, 201016 yr For small airliner flights (737, A320 etc) ...Manchester EGCC to...Belfast - EGAACity of Derry - EGAELondon Gatwick - EGKKLondon Heathrow - EGLLEdinburgh - EGPHGlasgow - EGPFStockholm Arlanda - ESSAParis CDG - LFPGI too live near Manchester airport (about 4 miles away towards the city), hence the preference for EGCC, plus UK2000's new extreme scenery is excellent! :( Regards,Alan Norris Live Video Stream : http://www.twitch.tv/aystertv
March 1, 201016 yr As I mentioned before, I like this topic but was hoping more people would include the "STAR available" part that Cliff mentioned as well :( If any of course ;-)Dan, note the thing I mentioned about the flight to EGLL with its many STARs. One thing I also like about EGLL is that if you find the Jepp Charts, you'll see the non-radar initial approach charts (transitions from the STAR end to the IAF). For some FMS custom waypoint practice, I like to fly those sometimes. Obviously, this is when sans ATC, but it is fun to plug those in and watch the bird autofly what amounts to a downwind and base leg.Southern California needs a high quality addon airport for FSX. LAX, SAN, BUR, ONT, VNY, PSP. One or all of them would be nice. And a good SFO OAK PDX and SEA. Oh and PHX, SLC, DEN :)No kidding. I'm originally from SAN and I would love to see the Cortez Hotel clearly on final into 27. But, this would also require that the AFCAD file for SAN not be so [bleeep]ing awful. I posted in the FSX forum on how to fix the fact that it always sends you to 9 (because it has the ILS), instead of 27 which is used 99% of the time IRL. I got some discussion on how to close 9 and play with the airport editor tool, which I didn't get a chance to try. But, as an example, I flew a short KSFO to KSAN route this weekend and the default ATC sent me on 9 with about a 10k TAILWIND. Unbelievable. March 1, 201016 yr VHHH-RCTPand the best thing is that almost ALL modern types of boeing/airbus fly this route in the real world

March 2, 201016 yr It's Europe for me, with no specific home base. There is a variety of terrain types in the contintent, and so many excellent quality sceneries all within about 2 hours of each other. There's even a handful of longer routes that stretch things out to maybe 5 hours if I so desire. The weather patterns are always interesting, and often challenging and the traffic levels are busy enlugh to keep you on your toes.EU FTW! Mark Adeane - NZWN
