moving VCs

Recommended Posts

Guest drummerboy5192

does anyone know how to move one VC to a plane without a VC. for example, i have a DC-8 model and every thing, except a VC. after looking at some cockpit pictures online, i realized that the DC-8 cockpit is similar to a lockheed electra cockpit. i have a lockheed electra and it have a VC. is there anyway i can move the cockpit from the electra to the dc-8?

If the aircraft's VC is contained in a separate '.mdl' file, which FSX supports... yes, it's possible.

A separate VC would be defined in the model.cfg file. The panel.cfg only defines where gauges are positioned within a VC... it doesn't physically define the VC itself.

The model folder for the a/c you wish to use MUST contain two separate .mdl files:one for the exteriorone for the interiorIf it has only ONE .mdl file, it can NOT be done, period.

Replace the interior model file, and then edit the model.cfg to point to the new interior model's name. You will also need to copy/paste all of the textures that are used by the "new interior model" in the a/c's ..\texture folder.

I've gound it simpler to copy all the texture files to avoid having to try to identify the relevant ones.I found it necessay to copy the contents of the panel folder as well. Also, it can be necessary to adjust the eye-point. Once I found it was almost at floor level!
