March 31, 201016 yr Thank you Florian ! But I thought your goal was to challenge the man. :(Now it's very close to the FSBreak interview here: http://www.fsbreak.net/podcast/22 Well I did ask some tricky questions, to which he replied "yes" or "no" or "I can't tell you". He even called a certain online community "pathetic" (not AVSIM).For the sake of readability, we chose to leave these questions out. There was really no point in including them in the final post.

There was really no point in including them in the final post.Perhaps you did or didn't ask; or he couldn't tell you......But in reality, the competition is still very stiff. ACE's may have closed, but the addon market for FSX is growing and getting better at the same time. The Orbx Pacific North West Scenery is an example, as well as a good number of very high quality aircraft addons. I think it will continue to grow, rather than diminish. As to myself, I lean both ways these days. I picked up the Orbx PNW (FSX) scenery as well as the X-Scenery Falco for X-Plane.L.Adamson

It would be interesting to know what he said.Great interview but I sort of agree he didn't reveal much that we (the avid followers) don't already know. Matthew S
April 1, 201016 yr Can you post those questions and his responses here? It would be interesting to know what he said.Ok, here are some:- X-Plane is a spectacular product, but where do you see X-Plane in 10 years? Are you interested in 3D technology?- unsure right now, but if the road takes us there, why not?- Do you have contact with Bruce Artwick?- nah- The iPhone simulation business, which you started, seems to be picking up. Have you seen the excellent F-Sim Shuttle app, and if yes do you have comments on that?- hmm.. have not...- Do you believe in free software?- no answer- Part of my second question also was "Also, Aerosoft is hinting towards their own simulator. Are you developing X-Plane 10 with this in mind? Are you in touch with them?- no answerRegarding the more agressive comments, I don't want to post them out here in public, but feel free to PM me. It's nothing too spectacular, but I don't want to start a forum war or something.Oh, and by the way, Austin seems to like the post:"HAR!LOVE IT!AWESOME!and the picture on the front that links to the interview is really fun as well! this is the fun and excitement, with no regard for formality, that business shy away from for NO GOOD REASON!"(lol, right?)
April 1, 201016 yr Regarding the more agressive comments, I don't want to post them out here in public, but feel free to PM me. It's nothing too spectacular, but I don't want to start a forum war or something.Presumably these aggressive comments are regarding Aerosoft. IMHO he's always seemed very arrogant in the interviews I've read/listened to! Imagine where LR/XP might be if he acted like a regular business person instead of just scaring off potential partners with his attitude! Isn't it time he tones it down a bit? Still he's made $3.5m from those iPhone sales alone so I guess he doesn't have to change a thing. :( Matthew S
April 1, 201016 yr ACES filing for Chapter 11? What is up with that? MS just closed the division, they didn't file for bankruptcy protection! April 2, 201016 yr ACES filing for Chapter 11? What is up with that? MS just closed the division, they didn't file for bankruptcy protection! No chapter 11, that's true. And maybe they still win a lot of money with FS boxes. But Microsoft just closed it. Now where's the official FS support ? How can the remaining bugs be removed ? How will the product be supported by future graphic drivers and operating systems ? Will you still find companies in 2011 and 2012 building advanced payware products for this sim ? How much time will companies like PMDG survive making add-ons for a product that has been stopped ?It's also true that the FS add-on market is still growing, but more than 3 years after the FSX release, most IVAO pilots are still using FS2004. Is the user community still growing ?And that's why I wanted Austin to talk about guaranties concerning the future of X-Plane.- X-Plane is a spectacular product, but where do you see X-Plane in 10 years? Are you interested in 3D technology?- unsure right now, but if the road takes us there, why not?Nothing can be sure when one person or company can decide if the product will continue to live, or die, and when it's proprietary software. There's no X-Plane foundation like there's a Ubuntu foundation. So X-Plane could end like FS. "Unsure right now" sounds like he doesn't really care about 3rd party developers and his growing user community.Building cockpits and add-ons can take more than 10 years for hobbyists... will they choose X-Plane because it's beautiful, spectacular today ? Or will they choose something where they are sure they will still be able to use, study, redistribute and modify in 10 years ? I think most of them have learned from Microsoft what it means to rely on proprietary software. Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
May 24, 201016 yr FS is NOT DEAD. Infact, the new Cascade Game Foundry, the new replacement of the former ACES Studio, is preparing a new simulator. Currently it is called as FS11, but I hope Microsoft would call it as FSXI or FS2K10. May 24, 201016 yr Here is one:http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pa...67945438?ref=ts I was looking for where they refer to the sim they are working on as "FS11". I thought that was exciting, but there's too many comments for me to bother reading, and I couldn't find it in a simple search. Regardless, if they are working on a project and calling it that, than I'm grinning from ear to ear. Jeremy "rightseater" Fletcher

I couldn't imagine them being able to call it FS11, though I know less than zero about how these things work. Oh well. The last thing I saw on their website was to look for announcements about upcoming product(s) in a few weeks, but don't know when that was posted. *EDIT* Better correct myself. This is what is on their website (http://www.cascadegamefoundry.com/projects/)"The team at Cascade Game Foundry is hard at work on the design and demo for our first project.
