2004 2d panels

Recommended Posts

Guest mberg

Has anyone out there with a GForce fx 5600 or equivalent been able to get 2d panels without having to resort to windowed mode?I have read the posts, tried the work arounds except downloading the leaked driver. There were mixed comments about the effectiveness of the GURU3D 44.67 or higher drivers. 44.67 is not available on the Nvidia site yet.If anyone has found the secret please let me know.

I have exactly the same problem and the same questions. Am waiting for the Nvidia site to post the 44.67 drivers. I am wondering if people who have tried the leaked 44.67 drivers on the 3dguru site have had success. I have seen only one post that was negative and have seen nothing positive. Other posts have indicated success with the 45.?? drivers but as a newbie when it comes to video drivers, I may be too cautious.

been there done that--no help--thanks for your response anyway. Can't believe MS fielded a product that won't work on a Nvidia fx video card. BTW, the more mip map you select, the more shimmering you get in 3D mode. Set it at 50% to resolve. What's up with this product other than poor quality assurance?

Result!Beta drivers 4250 did the trick. I downloaded from Guru3D.Hmmmm... downloading unofficial beta drivers to get MSFS to work? Very sketchy! But it did the trick... I'll update if I see any issues with the drivers.Hope that is of some help.

I use the 44.71 drivers that are WHQL certified. Got them on www.guru3d.com. Still had problem with getting 2d panels to work w/o resorting to windowed mode. However, I read in this forum that the solution to this problem is to turn off AA in your display settings. You can turn AA on within the sim. Worked for me. I have a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra video card.Jim

what steps did you take to install the guru driver? Is it self-installing or did you have to go through the steps listed on the guru download site?

"What's up with this product other than poor quality assurance?"What makes you think it has anything to do with QA? What about Nvidia? Or ATI? Microsoft does a great job of QA considering we own PC's in a great tower of Babel, where no two video cards of the same badge are able to be "driven" the same by DirectX.And shimmering is not Microsoft's fault. It's a consequence of lowering the mipmap level in any entertainment title that uses 'em. Anyone skilled with Rivatuner can compensate. I leave my FS mipmap slider at 4, and use RivaTuner. "4" in the Mipmap slider means "use the driver settings". Consider the mipmap slider there for people who are satisfied with any tweak at all, and a bit to fearful of using a tweaking tool. It's there for convenience, not the "power user."As far as your panels are concerned, turn off AA in the sim, and enable it only through RivaTuner...see if that helps.

1. Unpack the drivers into a convenient folder.2. Uninstall current drivers via the "add or remove programs" dialogue in WindowsXP.3. Reboot PC4. Point Windows XP to the newly unpacked drivers folder.5. Reboot PC.Everything went smoothly.

I recently switched to the 44.67 drivers for my GF4 Ti4400 card. However, with FSAA enabled at anything other than 4x or 4xS, the 2D displays are black, the menu does goofy things, and the OS will reboot when you switch between windowed and fullscreen.I rolled back to the last official release for the FX cards were supported which were the 43.45's. While I am still experiencing some goofy things with the menus in full screen mode - the app no longer crashes and my FSAA works (without a terribly steep performance hit). You might give them a try if you're not running on a GeForce FX.J

a product that won't run with a popular video card?A product that leaves the old problem of glideslope capture with the heaviesA product that over compensates on the effects of torque, etcA product that has similar issues of ATC with that of 2002A product that has scenery omissions that did not exist with 2002A product that requires outside video tweaks because of internal inconsistencies (AA, etc)A product that begs for work arounds (see posts)etcetcAs a QA specialist, these are fundamental QA oversights in the design of the program, not external providers.

"As a QA specialist, these are fundamental QA oversights in the design of the program, not external providers."Funny, we have the same job responsibilities. You are probably familiar with tools like QARun, Winrunner, Loadrunner, QADirector, Rational, although they don't lend themselves well to MSFS, they lend themselves very well to the financial applications I am responsible for testing--aside from administering our WAN, I direct our automated testing solutions. You sound like someone I can have an interesting chat with--rare that I run into someone from the same "background".You probably understand how to establish and test against a baseline, and the differences between regression, unit, and load testing. Where's the baseline in MSFS? You talk about issues of one of the more popular cards, but what about the umpteen drivers that have been released? Is Microsoft responsible for testing every one of those? Baloney.... I have users in the field who gripe about our applications not working. So I call in their laptops for a software audit, and I find Spyware and other applet junk that they swore wasn't on their systems. I find they loaded up DirectX, but hit "Cancel" along the way so they could enter a claim. And I tell them flat out--my QA team, network support team and programmers are not responsible for labbing our product against all the junk they throw on their systems. And I send the equipment back with a warning--and on a second return, I lock their equipment down.Your litany of displeasure against this sim is amusing. It sounds like you are trying to apply mission critical standards (such as those which probably apply in your role, as well as mine) to an entertainment title. I concede you are right all of your points (except G/S capture is very much improved, but must be adjusted via the aircraft.cfg). But this is a sim that covers millions and millions of square miles! Mistakes will happen. I used to serve as Controller for one of the Tahoe Casinos, and chose Gardnerville as my home while I held the position. Carson City/Minden/Gardnerville is home to about 100,000 pp. And it's been missing since FS2000! Oh my--send the program back to the presses!No--instead I applied my professional skills, updated the landclass, and wrote a program (Landclass Assistant) to allow anyone to do the same with a few moments' work. If you've ever tried the Swiss landclass, or Florida landclass, you've flown the results of my contribution to a $50 entertainment title. I'm a relative small fry in a community where we have lawyers, business owners, and owners of full fledged software development firms. But I know my business, and I know QA!$50 can seem like a million. But considering your background in QA, and knowing the results of a recent salary survey I did in advance of bringing aboard a new hire, $50 should be peanuts for you. You can dislike FS2004 if you wish and voice complaints. But you can at least grant me and others the courtesy of letting us know the results of our suggestions. I made a suggestion in my post, but it sounds like you were more concerned in establishing a playing ground against your "credentials"....
