[HOW TO] Fixing dissapearing textures - The real FIX!

Featured Replies

I have applied the "Fix", in the hope it would fix a problem that I have. The problem is that some of my aircraft are totally grey with no textures. I am not very sure how to fix this, nor the reason why it should have happened. If any one could assist me I would be very grateful.

Hi,are you using DX10 ? If yes, maybe your plane is not DX10 compatible. When i use DX10 with a FS9 aicraft (PMDG 737-700 for example) i have grey textures, too.Andreas

Hi, Yes I believe I am using DX10. I notice when I try and look in various textures folders some are DDS files, however the ones relating to the grey textures for my aircraft are bitmap files. how do i convert or fix this. Can i remove dx10?Any assistance would be much appreciated

What better week to post a 'Holy' grail Fix, I call it the Holy Grail of FSX stability... ;)Here you go, the 'short' version... (people hate it when I get technical)simply add HIGHMEMFIX=1 to the graphics section of your fsx.cfg file, like this:[GRAPHICS]HIGHMEMFIX=1never ever a building, object or VC textures will dissapear... enjoy.
I still get my jetways on Imaginesim airports disappearing at few hundred metres.FSDreamteam doesn't have this problem. Maybe mip mapping would solve the problem?Daniel

No, mip mapping doesn't solve that problem of jetways popping into or out of view. The jetways disapperaing is due to the culling, or the distance in which the object is drawn or displayed. It's usually done by design to maximize FPS. The reason that the FSDT airports don't do that is because the Couatl engine that drives there sceneries is programmed to either draw or remove various scenery objects based on the disance you aircraft is from the said object. On the imaginesim jetways you might be able to decomplile the bgl and re-adjust the culling distance then recompile it, but I am not 100% certain about that. You may need to actually load the models into some other type of software and then recomplile them to adjust culling distances. I was actually going to try doing that on another 3rd party airport I have to see if I could do the opposite and have the jetways disappear sooner to pick up some FPS.

Lol, good luck with that. You would probably have a greater chance winning the lottery than, a. getting a response from them, b. getting them to fix it, or c. both a plus b.
