Thanks.What is the purpose of ALLOW__SHADER_30=1, and is it applicable in general to FSX Acceleration installs? I am using SceneryTech USA, UTX USA, GEX USA, and REX 2.0 with 2048 cloud textures. Also, my GPU is a BFG GTX 275 OC, if that makes any difference. I left out the TextureMaxLoad=30 value, and have left that to default to reduce the load on the GPU with the bufferpools turned off.

Why a value for "PoolSize" if UsePools=0?What is "RejectThreshold?"
I would assume that's for testing. Doing it myself.If Pools=0 it doesn't read PoolSize then if Pools=1 it reads the PoolSizePierre

Correct. Think of UsePools as a toggle switch; UsePools=1 is "on", UsePools=0 is "off". The PoolSize=x line is just specifying the actual poolsize to be used.
Why set your "AffinityMask=12" instead of "AffinityMask=14"?Your're only using 2 cores to run FSX??
I believe this is to reduce thread collisions, which should minimize microstutters.

ALLOW_SHADER_30 simply allows FSX to make use of SM3.0 for Water Effects, because they are the only shaders compiled using SM3.0 everything else is either 2.0 or 1.1 This was a 'compatibility' or design decision I suppose. so, DONT USE if you have old hardware. SM3.0 is DX9c only.AffinityMask=12 yes, reduces thread collisions and FSX scales well up to 3 CPU. after that, you are wasting CPU cycles. There is no performance impact here, so don't worry. And remember, even though affinity mask=12 only makes two cores active (core2 and core3) you'll STILL have activity in CORE0 because the fiber system is NOT bound to the Affinity mask vale, so, even AffinityMask=12 will make use of 3 CORES's for FSXIn the 'BufferPools' section, I included ALL values for all situations, so the ONLY value you want to change there is UsePools (which is an ON/OFF switch)so, that way, you have the choice to either run with no BufferPools OR run with BufferPools, but using the most efficient way of doing so.As for what is RejectThrelshold, you'll need to search the forum for that to see my previous posts. Think of it as the 'Alternative' Holy Grail to BP=0

I would assume that's for testing. Doing it myself.If Pools=0 it doesn't read PoolSize then if Pools=1 it reads the PoolSizePierre
UsePools=0 will IGNORE PoolSize and RejectThresholdUsePools=1 will use a BufferPool with the size you specify in PoolSize

ALLOW_SHADER_30 simply allows FSX to make use of SM3.0 for Water Effects, because they are the only shaders compiled using SM3.0 everything else is either 2.0 or 1.1 This was a 'compatibility' or design decision I suppose. so, DONT USE if you have old hardware. SM3.0 is DX9c only.
So with the latest DirectX update, and I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz, and a GTX 275 I should be able to use SM3.0?

SM3.0 is ancient news :) its supported by HW like since 2006 probably :) so, there is nothing 'revolutionary' about it.. don't get too excited, because FSX makes almost NO USE of SM3.0 95% of FSX shaders are compiled to 1.1 or 2.0. ALLOW_SHADER_30 wont change that UNLESS the shader was programmed to compile in SM_30, so far WATER EFFECTS when using MAX Water seem to be the only ones using SM3.0For 'testing' you can, for example do:ALLOW_SHADER_20=0ALLOW_SHADER_30=0That disables both SM2.0 and SM3.0 so only SM1.1 will work (Clouds and Terrain are SM1.1) this will allow you to appreciate the visual differences much easier.

Copy that, I use 2.x HIGH. Regardless, thank you so much for all of your time and dedication. FSX is running very fluidly with beautiful visuals thanks to your efforts, my hardware, and SceneryTech/UTX/GEX/REX/UT2.

With less and less to tweak, there will be more flying, so don't expect to see me often in the next weeks :) I just wasted so much time 'tweaking' I decided it was time to 'understand' fsx.cfg fully (including all of its options) so you guys can fly more :)Less Tweaking = More family time

Agreed, almost to my TOD from KLAX to KDEN in my Titan PMDG MD-11F. :(
