to avoid the screen flickerings when you Hit ALT, you need to exit full screen mode into windowed mode. You can maximize the window to any size you want, but you need to have it so there is a bar on top that say Flight Simulator 2004..... and you should see a bar that has like Aircraft, World, etc. on it at all times. That stops the flickering, and the goofy text.

Try it with the mipmap level at four. Seems to work on my 9800 Pro.Doug

Hi, Ulisses. The way I use for minimizing the shimmering/flickering of autogen objects in the distance is with these settings:In Windows Display Options: in the driver options, I put 4xAA and AF on Application Preference. I've noticed that AF increases this shimmering. I put Texture Preference slider on Performance and Mipmap Detail on High Performance. In FS2004, Hardware: I use a high resolution, 1600x1200x32, None for AA, and Trilinear for Filtering. Mipmap on 4.To eliminate further, you can try FS2004 Mipmap on 3, but this will degrade textures visibly,; you can compensate this by increasing in Windows display options the Texture Preference and the Mipmap Detail level. You can do some testing with all these settings.Hope this helps you a bit.

""In FS2004, Hardware: I use a high resolution, 1600x1200x32, None for AA, and Trilinear for Filtering. Mipmap on 4.""I run 4xAA & 16xAF (Performance) on my 9700 Pro, 1600x1200x32; mipmaps in the sim settings on 4 with Trlinear Filtering and see no flickering. You want to run your AF in the control panel at 16xAF but Quality AF leaves a distinct line between high res textures and lower res more distanct textures, thus the reason I'm running 16xAF Performance Anisio. It's also easier on framerates so I can run with my clouds maxed out. I also set the texture_bandwidth_mult=400 in the fs9 cfg file so changing views is instant with no pop-in textures.

Hi,In which part of the FS9.cfg I add this line: texture_bandwidth_mult=400 ???I tested my Radeon 9800pro at 1600x1200 and the image is better and simulation is smoother (believe or not), but I use a projector that is 1024x768, it accepts 1280x1024, but the real resolution is 1024x768.I'll try the settings you suggested...Thanks guys !Ulisses

That line already exists in fs9.cfg. Use Find to locate it and just change the value. And I agree, Ulisses, with the Radeon 9800 Pro I have, the sim runs very smooth at 1600x1200x32 compared to lower resolutions, which I also hadn't expected.

I agree. 1600 x 1200 at 32 bit is the way to go with the Radeon 9800. Jimmi gave me a real good tip of running the mipmap at about 5. It really perks up the frame rate and keeps the shimmering all but non existent. I set the anisotropic at 8, not really necessary to go to 16 in my opinion.I'm very pleased with the rates I'm getting with this card with the above mentioned tweaks. The flickering issue when changing menus is a minor annoyance, certainly something that could be fixed but nothing that prevents me from enjoying the 2004 version of this sim.I will say this, when you're cruising at 30,000, the horizon and haze is absolutely stunning. Clouds are superb and so realistic.Looking forward to trying out the new mega scenery when it's released on the 11th of August. So far, I'm enjoying this version very much.

Yeap,After many tests I found that MipMap at 5 (inside FS) is a really good option (far away scenery textures are nice), T&L is very important and texture resolution set to High.... more than that, in the ATI settings I'm using AA at 4x, anisotropic at 16 with Quality checked and MipMap quality slider set to Performance. Shimmering is a lot better now.Yes, I can live with the flashing menus for now...but I hope I new driver will fix that.I can't use 1600x1200 because my projects accepts max. res. of 1280x1024...Thanks for sharing your experience !Ulisses
