It seams you have the very best 980X on this world. I never seen before that one has managed to get out 4.88GHz with 1.23VCore. Even on LN2 is a minimum of 1.45 Vcore needed and you using air cooling...I assume you mean 3.88GHz not 4.88GHz.

I tested my system with only one core enabled. Fs9 ran about the same as 2 cores enabled. Then I went ahead and ran three cores @4.88 ghz . Fs9 even responded better then with 2 cores.
LOL I must ask: Why not use FSX too? At 4.8+ I think you would be able to tear through FSX!

I will as soon as I save up for another sdd.
CPU -Z read only 3603.7 MHZ .So now I see your concern on my misleading information.

Oh Dear , Crashmax Just like my Rig !!Cheer !P.S. keep FSB high as much as possible , not multiplier . It give max performance on my Rig

Good point!

Be careful everyone My Rig , Can run 4.68 GHz with no BSoD . But FSX may Crash to desktop with many fatal error such as g2d.dll , g3d.dll, etc , with and without CFG tweak.and occur with assassin creed II , splinter cell conviction. Now I run only 4.5 GHz with stable FSX and many games.Who have same experience ? May 980x or any future CPU can run near or above 5GHz+ with stable gameplay.OR any problem on my rigplease discuss

After overclocking it is important to always run linx and prime95 to test stability. Run linx for 20 minutes and prime95 for 1.5h. If both tests are stable and temps are ok, then you have a stable overclocking. This is my experience.4.5GHz under air is very good! You must have a good 980X. This is my second 980X and it can do 4.8GHz under water, but it needs 1.54VCore and this is too much for 24/7 use, so I stay also with 4.5GHz.

You said " This is my second 980x " . First one was sold and you bought second , Highly cost to paid : money and heart. Great man

Which Latencies (sample: 8-8-8-24) have your G.SKILL?Cheers
So is CPU-Z a good program to check system settings? The reason I choose it was I had seen it in a couple of cpu reviews. He is my ram specs....and thanks for all the great input! :( Capacity 6GB (3 x 2GB) Speed DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Cas Latency 9 Timing 9-9-9-24-2N Voltage 1.6V ECC No Buffered/Registered Unbuffered Multi-channel Kit Triple Channel Kit Heat Spreader Yes Recommend Use High Performance or Gaming Memory

2 GHz CAS 9 RAM running with 2 cmd clock wait states (2N or 2T) is an underperforming choice to pair with an overclocked 980. You'd be much better off with 1600 MHz CAS 6 memory, especially since the good stuff can run at 1T.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Bob is right.Perhaps you can try to "underclock" your RAM to 1600MHz @8-8-7-22 1N or even 7-7-7-20 1N. You hav to try.Regards

I checked my memory with cupid cpu or also known as cpu-z and it states I am running at 1t. I tired 7-7-7-20 and system locks up on start up...will try 8-8-7-22 next.....

Is it possible (via BIOS) to reduce the number of PHYSICAL cores to 3 and (in theory) push it beyond the 5 barrier? or you CAN'T reduce Physical cores? Since I use FSX with 3 cores only (afiinity mask 12) I was thinking the level of performance I would get with a 980X using half its cores, any thoughts?
Hi ******* (and all),I think I found the intel processor you want ! :( (Be Prepared to open your wallet wide :( )Btw... be careful about reducing Cores to 1 or 2 in BIOS with the i980X... see:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=252843
