head tracking devices...

Recommended Posts

I am a bit surprised that no one seems to have discussed head tracking devices for use with FS2k4? Is there a problem with these? framerates? configuration? other? It seems like it would great now with the VC immersion. I am aware of the IRTracker and I am looking into it. But, I remember there was one around that used a PC cam vs. and IR device. Does anyone have a link or info on thisIf you use this type of thing what are your thoughts? espcially with FS2k4.thanks

I bought the Track IR gear (http://www.trackIR.com/) to use with FS2K2 and am now using it with FS9. Some new drivers were published yesterday that iron out any final problems. I think that this equpment is absolutely fantastic. It does take a little while to get coordinated (especially when landing). The movement is smooth and I find much less jerky than panning with a joystick or yoke hat.I am now trying to find out if it is possible to control the mouse pointer with the joystick hat and assign joystick buttons to mouse clicks. I would then be possible to fly with a clickable VC without ever (pretty much) having to take your hand off the joystick.Hope this helps,Philip

I have the TrackIR device as well and really like it. I had been waiting for the final drivers for FS2004 before trying it and just saw them last night. I have not played with any settings yet, but the default is very sensitve. That is a good thing, as it can always be turned down. I really like TrackIR in FS2002 and IL2FB as well.Tony

The clickable VC works very well with trackIR. My problem is that I look down, for example at the trim wheel, and then have to take my right hand off the joystick to set the trim with the mouse wheel. I realise that this wouldn,t be a problem with a yoke. I like the realism of actually using switches and dials in the VC, somehow clicking on the flaps or gear lever 'feels' more realistic than using a joystick button. Next step - touch screens for the VC?Regards,Philip
