Help with World of Ai in preparation for 737ngx.

Featured Replies

Sorry If this topic is misplaced, but I didn't know where else to ask it. In preparation for the 737ngx, I purchased fsx. Strangely, I have my World of Ai packages installed, but the airports are pretty empty for some reason. In fs9, (I Have both sims now), my airports would be flooded with planes, but now in fsx, there are only a handful of planes at airports, and as you know, airports in fsx have plenty of parking. So what am I doing wrong that I have only a handful of ai planes at airports when I have the same number of packages as in fs9 (and in fs9, once again, my airports were completely flooded with planes.)?Alfredo Terrero

On a side note, how can I sign my name in lighter letters at the bottom of my posts? Sorry I just got my account today.

Welcome to the Avsin forums!!!!Last question first:On the top menu bar you will an option named My Controls. Click on it and then scroll down until you find Board Settings. On the screen which then displays, scroll down near the bottom and change the "editor" to Rich Text Editor. That will allow numerous editing enhancements. While you are in the My Controls section, you can also create a Signature, which can be added automatically to any post you make.RE: WOAI in FSX:You may not be aware that WOAI Traffic files are in FS2004 format. FSX can read either FSX or FS2004 format Traffic file but.........not both at the same time. If FSX encounters any FS2004 format Traffic files, all FSX format Traffic files will be ignored (that includes FSX vehicles and boats etc.)WOAI Traffic files need to be "converted" to FSX format. I find the easiest way to do this is the conversion tool which is built into the excellent (and free) AI Flight Planner program by Don Grovestine. The conversion utility is on the file menu. When I convert such files, I use the option append the letters FSX to the resulting converted file(s) and then I delete the old FS2004 style files. You can select multiple Traffic files to convert so the process is quick and simple. Be SURE you are converting the Traffic files you have in FSX - not the ones you have in your FS2004 setup. You can get the latest version of AI Flight Planner here:http://members.shaw.ca/aifp/As to the "amount of traffic" you are seeing, have you checked the AI sliders and have them set at least as high as you do in your FS2004 setup?Hope this is helpful. And again, Welcome!

Opa, thank you for your detailed and friendly response. I will try this out now according to your steps. Just to let you know, my traffic sliders are set to max, so I am pretty sure the problem is that the traffic files aren't fsx format as you said. Once again, thank you for answering all of my questions and welcoming me to the forums.

Unfortunately, my ai traffic remains low, even after performing the steps using the program. Below is a picture of KMIA to show what I mean.

Another thing to tey -On the WOAI website main page is an option called WoAI Aiports. When you click on that, a box comes up where you can type in the ICAO code of any airport and it will display a list of their airline packages which serve that airport. Then you can download and install those airlines which you may not have at the present.Hope that info is helpful.

Yes, the airlines I have do serve the airports I fly to. For example, I have american airlines installed, yet there are only 1 (sometimes even none) aa planes at kmia as can be seen in the picture. Opa, or anyone else who uses WOAI in FSX, have you guys ever had this problem, is there something I'm doing wrong with WOAI? I'm even running the installer as an administrator and not getting any errors while installing.Thanks.

If it any help, here is a picture of how my AI is with only the default planes and general aviation and airline traffic set to 100% The airport is the same KMIA and my WOAI packages removed. Is this normal aircraft quantity for the default planes set to 100%? Maybe my FSX installed incorrectly.

A couple of quick "checks" you can make -1. Navigate to your FSX/Scenery/World/scenery subfolder and see how many Traffic files you have there. If you converted them (as earlier outlined) you should see files which are named something like this:Traffic_000_WoA_American Airlines_Su08_FSX.bglPossibly you converted the files but they did not end up in the Scenery/World/scenery subfolder.2. Also check your Scenery Library dialogue in FSX and be sure that you have an "active" entry named Scenery/World - it is normaly identified as Default Terrain and is the very first item which will be at the bottom of the list of entries.Just a note: I have my default FSX aircraft disabled so all I see are WOAI (real world) airlines.I disabled the default by renaming the default Traffic file as trafficAircraft.bgl.DEFAULTDEFAULT is not a "valid" extension so FS ignores that file.Keep us posted.

Opa, once again, thanks for your quick response. Yes, the traffic bgl files are in the scenery/world folder. Also, I have renamed the trafficAircraft.BGl to trafficAircraft.blg.bak previously but it didn't seem to do anything. As the for the second suggestion, where can I find this scenery library dialogue? Thanks, once again.

Okay I found it and it is there and is checked. Just found something out. I went to Heathrow in London and the airport was pretty much dense with traffic (primarily British Airways as not a lot of my packages serve Heathrow). Going back to KMIA, and KFLL reveals the very low aircraft density as in the picture again. I do not know why this is so, since KMIA and KFLL have plenty of parking. Maybe this will shed a clue as to what is happening. I also just went to KLAS. I opened the airport's bgl in airport design editor and there are a plethora of parking spots available, but, once again, there were only 11 airliners at the airport considering the airport has a great number of parking.

Can I assume you have tried various times of the day? Early to mid morning and late afternoon/evening are usually the busiest times for most major airports. Also allow plenty of time for the airport(s) in question to get "populated". There may be a dozen aircraft just about to land and if you leave the scene too quickly...........well, you get the idea.Good Luck.
  • Author

Yes, I have tried different times of day. Ill try that and see if the airports slowly get populated.Thanks.

One more thought........I don't believe you mentioned "where" you installed FSX on your Win 7 machine. If you accepted the default location (under Program files) rather than installing it away from Program Files as is so highly recommended now, it is subject to an array of Win 7 "permission" issues. If that is the case, try Right clicking on the shortcut which starts FSX and then select the Compatibility tab. Set it to "run as adminstrator".That is NOT the same as you being logged on "as adminstrator". It should allow FSX to perform such tasks as may be necessary to operate properly without the possibilties of such actions being thwarted by Win 7 "security".It certainly cannot hurt to try the above - no guarantees though.

Unfortunately, this did not work. This is just such a strange problem. Opa, thank you for all the help you have given me, if you or anyone else, have any idea what this problem is, feel free to post it here. As for me, I'll see what I'll do and I'll re-post whether I installed something wrong or I'll post a fix to someone who might be facing this also. Thanks for your time and help.
