August 11, 200322 yr I am not an expert but this theme of 'perceived' higher (than Nvidia's) quality image with the latest ATI card is being reported by many folks. There must be something to it. Whatever 'tricks' are involved behind scenes is really of little importance - on the paper Nvidia may be better but what really counts is what users see with their naked (and imperfect) eyes.(I don't own an ATI card). August 12, 200322 yr Chris thanks for these clouds. These clouds look good and perform well on my system. My frame rate went from 9 with the MS Detailed clouds to 18 with your clouds with the same settings and this is at LAX with an overcast sky. Someone said that these clouds have no performance benefit on ATI cards because those cards don't AA the clouds but I got much better performance with these clouds and I'm running the game at 1024x768x32 4x FSAA 8X AF.
August 12, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Dirk, Overcast will take hit on any situation and not really major improvement on performance, try any other situation, you will see the difference on performance.See this post:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=133915&page=See this post:http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...mID21/3388.htmlTry do do the test without 4x AA but 2X Antialasing. 4x Antialasing will kill performance.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
August 12, 200322 yr Hi Chris,My above post is done yust to have a numeric parameter for a particular condition.Your clouds textures works fine for me in all weather condition. Thanks for your great help to the simm community.Best regards...Dirk Trotteyn.
August 14, 200322 yr Great work! I can only confirm the positive comments of others. I have a humble PIII 933 Mhz / Geforce 2 MX and with this fix I finally have a flyable solution with full overcast cloud cover as well as autogen maxed. Thanks alot! One more happy flyer here :)-Arvid
August 14, 200322 yr Hi, Chris>Overcast will take hit on any situation and not really major improvement on performance,> try any other situation, you will see the difference on performance.Regardless of the worst weathes condition (overcas) I used for the above graphic test, the numeric results are not at all deprecative. They are:For row #1 -- 18.6 to 19 --- 2.51% FPS increaseFor row #2 -- 8.3 to 9.4 --- 13.25% FPS increase For row #3 -- 5.6 to 7.0 --- 24.99% FPS increaseFor row #4 -- 4.9 to 6.1 --- 24.48% FPS increaseFor row #5 -- 4.6 to 5.7 --- 23.91% FPS increase For row #6 -- 4.1 to 4.9 --- 19.51% FPS increaseFor row #7 -- 4.1 to 4.6 --- 12.19% FPS increaseI am working in a new test (test#2) with broken/scatered sky and in same particular situation (for consistency in the results). Also I will do a pair of tests using the new NVidia 45.23 driver.I hope a numeric comparison (with FSW/without FSW) is more demonstrative for see the FPS increase. Best regards...Dirk Trotteyn (SANT)
