June 22, 201015 yr Interesting...Don't laugh at me, but I'm on 5.1b and I "was" thinking that my system was running really well. I have the installer for 5.3 on my HD and have been reluctant to install it because my performance is very good and don't want to screw it up. May have to get 5.3 installed asap after your GLOWING remarks Mitch. I've heard many good comments from others as well regarding 5.3.
June 22, 201015 yr HelloJust installed 5.3 pro after using 5.2bThis product just gets better and better, models look a lot nicer, frames seem better.
June 22, 201015 yr I'm surprised I'm the only user reporting 10 seconds of 2-3 fps with my traffic pro 5.3 whenever I enter the 100 mile bubble. Either my computer is poorly optimized or I'm more honest and realistic about what's really going down.Definately, the models and skins are beautiful. June 22, 201015 yr I installed 5.3 last night after using 5.2b for quite a while. I really don't see a whole lot of difference except some more military planes and a few airliners and GA planes. I also own Audio Environment and it sounds exactly the same to me. One thing I didn't do was uninstall 5.2b. I just renamed the MyTraffic folder and then installed 5.3. All of MT's files that FSX uses are in that one folder so renaming it does the trick without uninstalling it.I'm glad I upgraded but I didn't notice the big changes that Sesquashtoo describes.
June 22, 201015 yr Hi everyone!I a few questions concerning 5.3. I can purchase 5.3 for 12 Euros. I assume I can install it clean without 5.2b? Can you install it with UT2 installed with zero traffic set in UT2? Finally, are the 'beach ball' size landing lights and strobes gone? Thanks!Bob.. Bob Prince
June 22, 201015 yr Are the screenshots on Simmarket reflective of the new pro version? The models shown still look pretty terrible as compared to the freeware stuff. Is there somewhere where I can see the better models and in the Pro version?
June 22, 201015 yr Bob,You can install it clean without 5.2b. Like Sesquashtoo wrote, he uninstalled 5.2b first before installing 5.3. Myself, I just renamed 5.2b's folder instead before installing 5.3.Sitting at KDEN in the mid-afternoon and with my traffic settings set to 50% airliners and 5% GA and using the best resolution and animation models, I averaged about 20-24 fps on my i7-920@4Ghz and GTX285. Even with traffic settings at around 30%, you get plenty of AI traffic with MT.Mike, the MT models will never match the excellent WOAI models which I use with my FS9 install. But for an easy to use package and easily configurable, MT models do the trick.
June 22, 201015 yr Author Hey, Bob! Yeah - I meant I bought the upgrade the day it was released. I used the old UT Traffic since day 1, and when the new version came out I bought it, but had so many problems with it I abandoned it then bought MTX4.2 - and was stunned!!! Suddenly I had traffic at all the small airfields - lots of traffic, so when 5.3 came out it was a no-brainer. Mitch and I have the same taste, but he's gat a bigger wallet!! :(-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well...er...I don't know about 'having the bigger wallet', lol. What I DO KNOW, is how powerful the odd bouquet of flowers is...and THAT, I do know about!I have FLOWER POWER working for me in this hobby, ROTFLMBO! Oh...and you have to invest in a really nice crystal vase, but the 'return' on investment is immense!
June 22, 201015 yr Author HelloJust installed 5.3 pro after using 5.2bThis product just gets better and better, models look a lot nicer, frames seem better.Mad Dog, exactly was my experience. I did take the step to read the manual on 5.2b so as to fully remove it from the H.D. before installing v5.3I know that some don't, but just wanted a really 'clean break' for my subjective A/B comparison. v5.3 wins hand's down. The new A330's are just great! Wing tips, engine nacelle detail, all of it. Good action on the spoilers as they touch down. I have been just enjoying sitting off the active at KLAX to watch the show at 100 percent on the Commercial. I haven't even got started about the new military you see near San Diego at Top Gun. Gawd....I'm having so much fun. Is this somehow illegal? Uh oh.....Mitch
June 22, 201015 yr Author Are the screenshots on Simmarket reflective of the new pro version? The models shown still look pretty terrible as compared to the freeware stuff. Is there somewhere where I can see the better models and in the Pro version?------------------------------------------------Mike, if you compare MTX 5.2b or 5.3 to WOAI, then WOAI wins hand's down for detail of A.I. I am only comparing the two products of MTX to each other. If you read on the SimMarket site, one of the major new enhancements to 5.3 is that a lot of non-specific FS9 carry-overs in models are gone, and the new FSX models are optimized for FSX exclusively. Optimized for SP2 users. If you compare MTX 5.2b to MTX 5.3 and you LIKE the benefits of good performance and less hits to the FPS count as per other A.I. products/solutions, free-ware or payware...then moving up in my opinion to MTX 5.3 is a no-brainer.Keep the comparison to the two MTX products and my opinions are based upon that assumption. I like all the features of easily configuring MTX as per my mood. I have used W.O.A.I in FS9 and still do, and will agree with you, the models are stunning, but that is not what is being compared for the purpose of this thread. I did use W.O.A.I. in FSX, but I do believe that I had performance issues which led me to wanting more performance as well as having MTX fill small(er) airfields and great military throughout the world (including helo's). This is one of the biggest perks in my basket of likes. Now, the world is much more realistic as you fly over country and dale. The airfields are alive with movement and traffic in and out! W.O.A.I and its like does not produce this effect. Great models, yes...absolutely, but the world you fly over is pretty starved..... That is not realistic. I now have FSX as real-world as I could want...but that 'flight starvation' was the last thing that needed fixing to then hold an FSX 'full house'.....Mitch
June 22, 201015 yr Here's are two long range shots of KLAX with 5.3. My traffic setting is at 40% which I think is pretty realistic.Mitch, what are your AI traffic settings at?
June 23, 201015 yr Author Here's are two long range shots of KLAX with 5.3. My traffic setting is at 40% which I think is pretty realistic.Mitch, what are your AI traffic settings at? Wally, I'm running v5.3 right now at Commercial 100 percent, and G.A. at 50 percent. I also did not alter whatever was the stock install for quality level and animation. If anything though (as I did with 5.2b) I might settle upon 'less animation and full model quality'.
June 23, 201015 yr I'm surprised I'm the only user reporting 10 seconds of 2-3 fps with my traffic pro 5.3 whenever I enter the 100 mile bubble.Well, I'm not sure but since I installed MyTraffix (5.3b) a few weeks ago my FPS also drop to 5 FPS for a few seconds every couple of minutes. I wasn't sure it was because MT and if I'm honest I'm still not 100% sure since nobody else reported anything like this before. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
