After completing his attachment with the RAF the Prince will also go onto further secondment to the Royal Navy, following in the footsteps of his father, Charles, Prince of Wales, who is able to fly both helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. William is thought to be taking these attachments in order to prepare himself for any future career as Head of the Armed Forces, when he becomes King.15th January 2010Prince William moved one step closer to becoming an RAF search and rescue pilot today, having completed an advanced helicopter training course. The Prince was presented with a graduation certificate by his father during the 30-minute ceremony at RAF Shawbury. The Prince of Wales, accompanied by The Duchess of Cornwall, was at the Shropshire base to present long-service and operational medals to RAF personnel.Prince William, known as Flight Lieutenant Wales, spent 12 months training at RAF Shawbury.Group Captain Jock Brown, Commandant of the Defence Helicopter Flying School, said: "This is one of the most demanding helicopter flying courses in the world, it is no small feat to achieve the standard required to pass it."Prince William has done well and achieved everything we have asked of him, both on the ground and in the air. "I am confident he will do well in the next stage of his training."Later in the month Prince William will move to RAF Valley on Anglesey, North Wales, where he will be taught to fly Sea King helicopters.Whilst there, Prince William will learn to manoeuvre the aircraft with pinpoint accuracy, enabling him to rescue stricken mountaineers or exhausted swimmers in treacherous conditions. The Prince is following in the footsteps of his father, who served as a Royal Navy helicopter pilot, as did his uncle, The Duke of York, who was a Sea King helicopter pilot during the 1982 Falklands War.Prince William laughed as his father delivered a short speech, congratulating the graduates and recalling anecdotes from his own flying days. The Prince of Wales paid special tribute to the family and friends present at the ceremony for their "unwavering support" of the students. He said: "I know only too well how complicated it can be having a relative or a close friend in the forces, because they are rarely, if ever, around."But today is a day, I think, of great pride for all of the parents".He wished the graduates "every possible good fortune" and advised them to cultivate a "sixth sense".He said: "Some of you no doubt will find yourselves in Afghanistan where the ground troops will put great faith in you."Others no doubt among you will be plucking people from danger, maybe sheep in distress, not to mention endless ladies with conveniently sprained ankles on awkward mountain sides across the country."Whatever the case, you will all be in charge of an amazingly expensive piece of kit which a lot of people won't want you to break, so I can only suggest that you cultivate that sixth sense, if you know what I mean, which can so often keep you out of trouble."courtesy: www.myspace.comThe Prince took a Chinook for his jaunt across to the Isle of Wight (file picture)Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-55...l#ixzz0rkoGc1UTQuestion is: Where is RAF Pilot Prince William today?Ken
June 24, 201015 yr Hi.'Where is RAF Pilot Prince William today?'Is that an inflammatory intention I detect? I have to confess to a certain curiosity (& cynicism) myself, though...BTW, he's not the Prince of Wales, that's his dad.;)Dave
