If you have an i7 processor, this might help you!

I recently beefed up my laptop with an i7 820qm processor. I wasn't too impressed with the performance, but then noticed that Windows was parking some of the cores (for battery conservation I suppose). Found this link to a fix which has helped alot-- and will maybe help some of you guys. I don't know if desktop i7's park their cores.http://ultimatecomputers.net/forum/viewtop...?f=7&t=3644Note: I haven't found any ill side effects and if you follow this guys instructions and mess it up its not my culpa!

Does this also work on CPU i5-750?I just tried this and noticed some improvement. Not sure if it's a fluke though.

It should work with any multi core cpu-- so long as it is on Win 7 (possibly even Vista).

Did you read, that this tweak affects computers with more than 2 physical CPU

What is achieved by this that can't be achieved with affinity mask? I am using Affinity Mask=14 and it seems to be working really well.

I think with affinity mask you are telling the system which core to do what (which application). With this fix, all cores don't go into park mode and all run balanced. Plus just because you assign a core/affinity mask doesn't mean that it won't go into park mode. I believe.

Does this make a difference if running Acceleration? I had read that Acceleration is written to use the multiple cores more efficiently (although still not optimally). When I am running FSX, the task manager shows the 1st core at near 100%, with the remaining cores at about 50% each. Many tweaks I read about don't apply to Acceleration. Thanks.BTW, I have a I7 Quad-core 3.2GHZ.-Don

Hi,Since this fix is easy to reverse, I decided to give it a try. After making the appropriate changes to my registry, I noticed the systems I7 cores being utilized evenly, or close to it. I don't think I see any difference in FSX but I'll keep using it for now as I have seen no ill effects from using this tweak. As with any system that utilizes this tweak, YMMV!.

Hmm...I have W7-64bit and searched for the key in the article. FIND went through the entire registry and found no occurence of this string value!~Mitch

This is interesting, Mike. Where did you find the string?!? I did a FIND with the quoted string, and nothing was found in my REGISTRY to match! Exactly where did you find it...under the POWER SETTINGS sections?

Hi,I had two entries under Power Settings and one entry under PowerSettings/DefaultPowerSchemeValues. I made three changes to my system registry.

I had four instances of that key in my Windows 7 64-bit install, changed them and really didn't see a difference in FSX.
