1600Mhz RAM at 1333Mhz?

Hi,Maybe a dum question, but I'll ask anyway :( I'm planning to buy a i7-980x with an ASUS P6X58D-E mobo.I plan to install the following RAM : Corsair Dominator-GT - 6 GB : 3 x 2 GB - DDR3 - 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 - CL7 - 1.65 V - ( 7-7-7-20)If I'm correct the RAM runs stock at 1333 Mhz and for now I'm not planning to overclock. Does this memory need to run at a minimum of 1600 Mhz or can it also run at 1333Mhz (and still at 7-7-7-20)?

If the ram is 1600mhz stock, and you don't overclock anything, the ram will stay 1600MHz. It's clocks only change when you increase your CPU clock speed and you have to change your ram frequencies.

Hi,I'm sorry but I phrased my question incorrectly.What I meant was that memory on the mobo runs default at 1333Mhz, thus without any overclocking.If I install 1600Mhz RAM rated 7-7-7-20 can this memory also run at 7-7-7-20 at 1333Mhz?

If you simply replace the ram modules and change nothing in the BIOS, they

You can run that RAM at 1600 without any overclocking. In that mobo's BIOS you can set the DRAM frequency to 1600, which is nothing more that setting the DRAM multiplier to 12. This is not an overclock considering that that RAM was spec'ed at 1600; no cpu related clock is modified by this setting. If that RAM kit is XMP, this BIOS DRAM frequency setting should be done automatically. There should be no problems if you really want to run at 1333 7-7-7-20, and in fact you should be able to tighten the timings to 6-6-6-18 at 1333 without any other changes.
