Anyone here use FSMap as a gauge in the VC?

Featured Replies

I understand that the program FSMap for FSX is a basic simulation of the Garmin GMX200. I think it can be installed as a guage/gps device in the stack of a pannel.http://www.fsmap.net/Overview.htmlI wanted to retrofit the 182RG with a combination of Friendly Panel radios, RXP GNS430 and the Garmin MX20/MX200 kind of device in the form of the FSMAP piece. The layout would match that of a plane I get to go right seat in from time to time and I want to get really familiar with the layout.Biggest thing is FSMap only if I can actually use it in the stack in the VC.Anyone know?Charles.

Hi there,Since you haven't gotten any response yet, I will see if I can help. First, I notice FSMap's website has it's own forum. You might post your question there and get a more detailed response. However, if it is a gauge, you should be able to add it to any panel. FS Panel Studio http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=FSP-ESD-001 is a program that makes it easy to modify panels. And I notice you can dowload a trial version of FSMap. Hope this helps a little.

I got a reply from the dev just before I read this. Thanks for your response! Here is what they said."The FSMap gauge can be added to the 2D (FSMap offers a tool for that) and also to the virtual cockpit. For the VC this needs to be done manually by editing the Panel.cfg. Some third party panels already have space left in the VC for third party gauges like FSMap. I don't know Panel Studio that much, so I cannot tell you if it possible to edit the VC configuration. I personally use the gauge on a second monitor, so I don't need to edit the VC. I just add it to the 2D panel in a separate window and then dock it to a second monitor.I tried to design the FSMap gauge as close as possible to the real GMX200 (I used the official manuals for that). Some functions of the GMX200 are still missing (like weather, map overlapping, map searching, etc.), but should be added with next updates. Currently FSMap only displays airports, VOR and NDB data directly read from FS. So no waypoints yet."So that said. There may be some small conflicts between the nav data displayed on FSMap versus GNS430 from RXP since the 430 from RXP takes it data from the database from the GNS430 training module from Garmin. Not sure Garmin's Jespen data from 2007 embedded in their trainer (engine for the RXP gauge) matches that of FSX (which is the data we see in the MAP in FSX). Hmmm...Charles.

Hi Charles,Glad you got an answer from the developer. Well, it sounds like you have food for thought. The only thing I can add is FS Panel Studio does give one the ability to edit the VC. This stuff is part of what makes this hobby fun IMO. Best regards,Bill

Quetion on the MS Map. is this the program that lets you get the departure and arrival sheets for various airports, rather than having to find and copy before a light??................If not, does someone have a suggestion on which FSX program is the most useable to get these airport info sheets...................regards, B42L8

My friend uses FSMap and it has all the charts for the US loaded. He had to add them. Digital versions he bought at $1.00 each. He also loaded the digital versions of all the plates. Apparently it works. You have to aquire them from somewhere though. Not sure if you can search for charts/plates/sheets in the FSMap panel guage but he runs it externally in the Window interface it runs in (you can run it as a gauge, a popup gauge or in a window interface GUI like an app that can be dragged to a second monitor or run via simconnect on separate computer like Plan-G) and can search from there and bring them up on an external monitor or computer/ In gauge though the dev sounded like that feature is not yet implemented.Charles.
