ANTONOV AN-225

Recommended Posts

Guest lyrajordan

i recently downloaded the antonov AN-225 for flight simulator 2004. my problem is that the plane will not take off no matter what i do. i set the flaps, accelarate to 160 kts and try to take off but nothing happens. the plane keeps gaining speed and im forced to abandon takeoff. does anyone else have the plane and if you do please tell me what i have to do to get the darn thing off the ground.i have a question about the traffic as well. is there any way i could download or add more AI planes to FS2004.

Don't know about the first question but as for downloading and adding more AI planes the answer is a resounding yes! You can! There are two main ways to approaching adding AI traffic. If you go payware there are at least a couple of packages you can install that'll do all the work for you. If, on the other hand you want to go the freeware way (IMHO much the more fun way...and cheaper), you'll need to download and learn to use Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools in order to decompile the traffic bgl, edit it and recomplie. The instructions are included with the software. You also should visit sites such as Project AI and Aardvark, both of which specialise in plane models which are designed for AI use, that is, they are low polygon models and don't hit your Flight Sim performance too badly. Whatever you do, try to avoid using planes that are not designed for AI use. You'll find performance suffers badly in most cases. If you've never installed AI traffic the freeware way you should take time to read up on the methods first because it can be a bit tricky until you've got the hang of it but persevere because it's great when you begin to see stuff you've installed yourself.Hope this has gone some way to answering your second question. Good luck!

HiAs for getting the AN-225 to take off, maybe you need to add some trim. Especially if you're fuel tanks are full. I don't know if this will work, but give it a go.Gavin

Hi, I have the AN-225 for FS2004 and I took off with no problems. What I did and from what I have read from other forums is that you have to put full flaps with full throttle while parking brakes are on before take off and when your engines pick up release the parking brakes. If that doesn't work, check your trim, ALSO...a couple nights ago when I was flying a Posky 757-300 from Anchorage,AK to Boise,ID I tried to take off but couldn't, it took me a while to figure out what was wrong and I realized that I accidentally folded my wings before take off(it didn't even look like it from a spot plane view). I don't think the AN-225 has an 'unusual animation' to the wings fold key, so you might want to check and make sure your wings are not folded or you will never get off the ground no matter how fast your going.I hope this helps!!James.p.s. Have you downloaded the AN-124 yet?? If not you should!

Greetings.I've noticed that quite a few planes load up in the sim, initially, with a full load of fuel and payload that puts them well over the maximum gross takeoff weight. I haven't delved too deeply into the aircraft.cfg files to see if there's a fix for this, but I find it's helpful, before starting any flight, to check your aircraft's fuel and weight. The AN225 has such a long range that you'll almost never need to take off with full tanks, anyway, so bring the levels in all the tanks down below 50%Also, make sure you have the nose trimmed up to takeoff settings before trying to lift any plane off the ground. Just like in real life, if your heavy isn't trimmed properly, no amount of control force is going to get it airborne. Hope this helps. - Matt D.

thanks a lot guys. it worked. i love flying this thing. it feels so different and powerful. i also added some new traffic and finally heathrow and CDG look like proper airports. i wish we had more airlines though. im using the AI traffic made by project AI. if i downloaded AI from somewhere else would it cause a conflict? anyone know if there's still antonov 225's flying around? ive never seen one and the only reason i knew about it was because of an encyclopedia of aviation that i came across.

I had heard that a few years ago, they had been grounded due to the collapse of the Russian shuttle program and the great expense to keep them in the air. But recently, I heard another rumor that they were flying again. But I can't say for sure. - Matt D.

The AN-225 was refurbished a few years ago and is currently flying and available for charter.

Holy C**p. how much did it cost them to make those things. $23,000 per flight hour. its an amazing plane though no doubt. wish the concorde was still in service though. does anyone know of any other military or freight jet that is kind of similar to the antonov? or is there any virtual cockpit available for the plane?
