AI sound upgrade

Recommended Posts

Can anybody recommend a package that will upgrade the sounds of AI aircraft in FS2004 (freeware or commercial)? I have seen details of Flight1's Audio Environment for FSX, and this looks and sounds fantastic. Are there plans to produce a version for FS2004? I wouldn't need the sound upgrade for the default flyable aircraft, as I never use these, but the default AI sounds in FS are pitiful. When a turboprop aircraft taxies past me, I don't want to hear the sound of a small Cessna piston engine. :(

There are some free downloads available that will inject more realistic sounds but you will be stuck with the same sound across wide ranges of aircraft so it can't really be right for everything. Also, the same sound is used whatever speed the plane is, e.g. taxying or take-off.There is also a payware system available (I forget its name) which does so much more than that (including reverse thrust sounds!) and allows every AI type to be allocated its own sounds but to achieve this it messes around with a lot of things in your setup that you might not want fiddled with. I dumped it in the end, not least as it wouldn't allow me to use any version of FSUIPC than that of its choice, which is quite old and lacks features I use like keyboard assignments. Development of it ceased long ago and outstanding bugs will not be fixed. Many love it, though. If only . . .John

I use a payware product called FSHotSFX which I love. It really adds to the presence of AI aircraft. It's really enjoyable to just sit at an airport listening to the surrounding traffic. It's also amazing to hear close traffic while in the air.I have had no conflict problems with any of my flight simulator settings.gwillmot

FSHotSFX doesn't work in Vista either. FSHotSFX is the reason why I have a dual boot PC with XP for FS9 and FSHotFSX and Windows 7 for FSX.It's a great program and well worth it if you use XP.

Thanks for the replies so far. FSHotSFX is no good to me, as I've got Windows 7, and in any case I had heard about its potential negative sides. Any other suggestions?

All FsHotSFX does is add the following few lines to every aircraft.cfg file for every airplane you have. The lines don't cause any issues even if you uninstall FSHotSFX.[FSHS_AIBLAST]OldName=BOEINGNewName=1865210BUT! FSHotSFX does not work well with RC4 and PFE as FSHotSFX needs the aircraft type from FSUIPC while RC4 and PFE needs the flight number and airline from FSUIPC.

Hi,Look more closely at your atc_type entries - it often changes them to a mixture of upper and lower case. It requires each one to be unique.

I believe it resorts to using numbers when the possible "unique" variations of the words are exhausted.. . . and entries likeatc_type=1865210stops the FS ATC system saying "BOEING".John
