FS2004 Lens Flare Mod Now Available!

Hello,I just wanted to inform everyone that I've released my lens flare mod for FS2004. It replaces the hexagon lens flare (which I thought looked phony) with a new circular flare. It's available at my website (Tim's FS Studio), the URL is below.

Isnt' lens flare caused by light reflecting off of the multiple coatings of a camera lens? I thought that hexagon was a reflection of the stopped-down iris of the lens which is why you seldom see a round one. Just an observation.

Hi Bill,Yes, you are correct that some are actually non-circular. However on many pictures I've seen, they are round or square. I've seen nothing quite as large and pronounced as the MS hexagon flare in a real photo and if it does happen, it's in a relatively small number of pictures. I've yet to see a circular (or square) lens flare. Until the lens makers come up with an iris that has an infinite number of segments then it will always be a polygon. In all my years of using cameras (compacts and SLRs, film and digital) I have never seen a circular lens flare.THe only time's that I have seen circular lens flares are in video games.

Personally I dislike the lens flare found in a video game, I think that it looks silly. I disabled the FS9 lens flare. With that said, this mod looks much better than the default one. Whether you can actually get perfect circles with a lens flare is really a minor point at best since this mod adds a nice touch to the sim for those that like a little flare.Tim13
