Some Dirt on the PMDG 737 NGX

The Maddog's WX and terrain features are actually two completely separate things - the terrain display is not a "radar" in any sense, it has a low resolution global mesh file that it reads out of for that. Our terrain display by the way reads the elevation mesh in real time out of the sim - what you have installed with mesh is exactly what you'll see depicted, it's extremely cool.
That sounds awesome! Can't wait to see it in action with FSGenesis! Does it also read whatever settings you have set for the mesh?

Sweet Moses that sounds cool. With the vertical display this is really going to be a fun plane to fly those Rnav approaches into Palm Springs for sure. And Rnav Rwy 1 at KDCA, another one of my favorite approaches to fly.

Been having a geeky trawl through Airliners.net - anyone know which airlines use the vertical terrain display feature? I cant see any cockpit images with it (does anyone have a link to any?). I guess it could be a new feature which only new orders have fitted....?

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the info. I have done a lot of "googling" on the subject, and what you are telling me jives with what I have read. One guy even said, "in idiot language, it makes your plane fly like an Airbus". Sounds quite useful to me when instead of punching a bunch of commands into the MCP when a quick change is needed in your flight, you can just switch to CWS mode and do it yourself without having to mess with trim (Which for me is always the trickiest part in FSX, as you never are quite sure how far you just messed with the trim by pressing the 3 or 1 Num keys.)Thanks for the info!
Glad the info was correct. I enjoy how the Airbus flies with its different method of trimming, but flying the NG again will be great fun!Regards,

Glad to finally see the answer to my question - so NO need to pre-compile a EGPWS DB but instead on-the-"fly" (pun intended har har) BGL reading - very cool.

No link unfortunately, have only seen it in action and that was on European carriers. Will make sure to let you know if I come across something, though. No idea about US carriers. As far as new orders go I am not sure. I hear there are a bunch of older planes that get retrofitted with newer stuff, like i. e. the newer Honeywell MCP/AFDS.sig.gif

When will it  be released? Approximate date? thanks....

The exact date is "when its done"

I guess we can add the KJFK r/w 13L/R visual approach, an approach I usually mess up on.

Classic one indeed. I'm making a small list of approaches to fly with the NGX w/ HUD and all.Anyone care to add one or two more?KPSP - RWY13R RNAVKDCA - River Visual 19KJFK - Parkway visual 13L/R
They should not wrote, that it will be in Mid 2010. I think that Dash8 and B777 will be in year 2013... :(
Maybe they shouldnt have thrown anything out there, but to their defense at least they put in a remark saying

With respect to release date, dont go there!!!! Besides, if you think they are taking too long just think of it as simulating the real thing. Look how late Boeing and Airbus is with the 787 and 380! Jack C
You can expect two (and possibly) three versions of FS2Crew for the PMDG 737 NGX.It should be especially good because we should be able to interface "cleanly" with the 737... no simulated mouse clicks... no need to use keypresses.Expect this:1. Button control version2. Voice Control version3. I may possibly do a special version for real-world pilots that only that simulates 'type-rating' training and deals with failures, emergencies, etc. Number 3 depends on if I can justify the $12,000 it'll cost me to head down to Miami and do a Type Rating on the 737NG at one of the schools there. It'll have to come out of my own pocket.Cheers,
Without fscrew voice commander it certainly wouldn't be the same!Bravo Bryan!David Di Domizio
Just curious, but will the NGX have extras in the airfile for things like Belly landings & ditching? It's nice to have the option to do rather than it just sinking into the water or runway and having FSX just detect a crash. I don't think it's modeled in the queen, have never tested it on the JS41, but I once was able to do a belly landing with the MD-11. I had to of course since FSP often gives no gear as one of the major failures.
You can do that with the Duke from Realair.David Di Domizio

I'm not saying they are taking too much time, im just saying maybe it wasnt the wisest idea to put "mid 2010" in a promo video, even with the warning of all dates being approximates, as it created unreasonable expectations. I guess they agree and thats why they are now saying "when its done". The perfect release date for me personally is infact when its done, it would not be good if they released a half finished addon, but im sure they would never do that. They are pmdg!
