Some Dirt on the PMDG 737 NGX

Featured Replies

There looks to be an easier and cheaper way to do it than that. I've just purchased a 7" USB touch screen that works with Windows 7 64 bit. With specialised software that will launch very shortly, you should be able to drag the FMC and resize it to the 7" screen and use it as if it were the real thing. The screen cost 200 bucks, the software is 60 bucks. The cheapest FMC that I know of, on the market starts at 500+ bucks and you can easily pay 2000 for some models.Of course, at the moment this is pure speculation, but I should know if it's feasible by weeks end,Frank
Hi Frank,Somebody already did this...(Fast-forward the video until 0:39!)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chftRBtx_E0

Speculation? I already use a touchscreen for the fmc in W7 64bit.It's very nice and adds a lot to realism!David DD

http://avatron.com/apps/air-display/edit: not sure if that one only works with iPad, or if it works with the iPhone as well
Excelent idea! Hope PMDG will consider that! The idea is great because the touchscreen is so good. If you look at the clip above you can see the problem most other touchscreens have. He has to click the screen several times - and also the mousepointer shows. An ipad app for PMDG would be great. Maybe with multible features like:Failure/instructor stationOverhead Aft/FrontFMCPlease consider it!

Perhaps what you want is the terminal (CDU)? The screen-split software mentioned above is actually a very realistic way of doing this.
Yes, I mean the CDU (not good on terminology, sorry). However I can't see the easy of having 2 screen (which you have to buy), wouldn't that effect performance? The reason I posted that idea was to not have 2 screens and drag the CDU and resizing it. If you already have the graphical interface on the phone and only the CDU data passing between the phone and computer, wouldn't that be easier and faster? If it could be done, why would you have to buy another screen?PMDG could make a separate application for every plane they made. That would mean income.

wow. learned something today. totally impressed by the video. David, would you share with us what touchscreen you bought? I mean, would I get that one from newegg or bestbuy? And how do you connect it to the PC, just 'normally' via a regular DVI cable or possibly even USB?BestPhil (still stunned)

Regarding your post, would you be kind to tell me even more tech-spec of the touchscreen your'e using with FSX? I' found one type - MIMO 7" - which is looking like the same as in the video. So, may I ask you to help me in the selection?I look forward all of your opinions etc.kind regardszg

Or even better, go with the faster selling more open for dev's android app. Its what most everyone I know is going to. Please no Apple a really excited user replies, we have heard it all before from that skinny guy wearing the turtleneck.

Your wrong, this is easily the biggest release in FS History. I'm buying two copies of the NGX; one for me and one for somebody that wants it but can't afford it upon release.Ron Hamilton
While this is incredibly noble and generous, are you sure that is consistent with the EULA? Ryan, I like how you call the 744 release "infamous".

With a reply like that your asking to be flamed. How about being fair and polite?I used iPhone i the original post because I own one, but I didn't mean iPhone only. I don't see why it should't be for both, and other smartphones OS. The idea was to use the smartphone as an CDU interface.PS. I don't think this will delay the NGX, it could be developed after its released. And by another team.

And how could it be not consistent with EULA? There's nothing "illegal" in it, both copies will be genuine.

Otherwise you also can't buy a game/cd/dvd/blu-ray as a present?Dion Mollert

Unless the dev team has done iPhone or Android coding before, starting from scratch would add months to development. I'd prefer PMDG makes their 2010 release :).I already use a dual monitor setup for all my sim flying... Main monitor (42") is for the sim itself and my 24" secondary is for charts, pull out panels, squawkbox, etc. Adding a small touchscreen tablet for the FMC is a great idea though... May have to be my next sim upgrade after I replace my aging CH yoke w/ the Saitek one.

Gents,Another week has gone without update. My holiday is almost over too. Please let us know something more about this most anticipated product for the flight sim community ever...And please, don't let me drive basic A320 products :)
