September 6, 201015 yr One thing I would like to see for NGX, is an iPhone application that turns the iPhone into a FMC for the NGX.With an app that creates an island and then transforms into the NGX to fly us there?(haven't finished the thread...hope no one else posted that) :) Jeff Hepburn
September 7, 201015 yr Hi Frank,Somebody already did this...(Fast-forward the video until 0:39!)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chftRBtx_E0 Just for ur info and from my experience....I already had 2 of these and really the degree of immersion it gives its not that much.I first had this same screen as in the video (Mimo). Its a 7'' USB monitor and cheap but very slow. Also fullscreen mode doesnt work with it.I now have a 7'' vga touchscreen (costs around $250) which i tried with an FMC... its simply not good....ur not touching buttons but a screen and also it's a lot slower than a mouse because the size of the monitor makes it difficult for u to press all the buttons quickly. One other thing is that the screen is off ur cockpit...so... unless u have a full homebuild cockpit it's not as real as when u are using the FS VC where it's actually all in the real place.Nowadays i found a very good use for it....i plug it to another computer where i have my charts and checklists and use it as an EFB...but other than that it's quite useless for simming in my opinion. If u want immersion without spending 15k or more for a home build cockpit buy:- hotas cougar (all metal)- CH pedals- trackIR- large monitor or 3 smaller ones+tripleHead2Go, always 16:10- buttkicker (sound vibration)- headphones with micThe experience will be very good and you will not be limited to one plane for the rest of ur simming life.Regards,Márcio Márcio Nóbrega
September 7, 201015 yr I relate/agree with a lot of Márcio said, but what he hits on here is important and a lesson it normally takes years of wasting money to learn. Some people want to save money (ok, I think we all do) so we decide to invest in the cheapest ways to give us some toys for of course, immersion. Once we get where we want down the road we often look back and see insane amounts of waste because we started with the "Cheapest we could get". It's funny but I almost bought this same USB screen a while ago but couldn't find out the answers I wanted. I can see a lot of people getting it, then after a couple months getting something a little better quality and faster responce, better touch calibration, etc. But then you're above the cost of a cheap, prebuilt FMC/CDU. Some may even exceed the price of the best FMC available. My best advice is stay away from monitors like this and get a VGA/DVI, but if you have a few more bucks look at the better low end prebuilt FMC's. I built my own, button by button, wire by wire using Epic cards years ago and from my own experience have wasted more than most of you will (hopefully). One thing to think of which is of course the most important to all is to wait and see what PMDG do with the hopeful SDK. Also what others do with it, meaning it could promote more people to release affordable FMC's.It's hard to differentiate between what's cheap and what's for us, but for what it's worth, investing $200 into something that's junk isn't wise spending, personally I rather wait and invest into something with actual buttons, some of these touch screens will make your hair go grey before it's time and the cheap ones calibrations will drive you nuts and make your route entry longer than it ever was in the past :wink:PS. Márcio, I actually have everything in your list there. The Hotas cougar was awesome when I had it with F4. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
September 7, 201015 yr I have yet to enter the discussion on the point of the NGX, because frankly, well it doesn't matter all that much since it will be out when it comes out...However, this question of the 7 in touch screen and "immersion" is an interesting idea. While I agree that it doesn't give as much immersion than the Engravity FMS (which is about about USD1000), I would imagine that having a small second screen for the FMS will make things a little easier. I can think of numerous applications for a second touch screen beyond just sim flying (and btw, I like the idea about using it for charts as well), I would have three screens (30", 20" and 7"), for USD200, it's not that big a spend in the grand scheme. I'm going to give it a try and I'll let you know how I get on...it will be interesting to see how it goes and if it doesn't, I'll simply put it in the box and send it back. Isn't that what "returns" are for? At Amazon.com, it was $207 incl shipping.Cheers,Dave Lamb/baw716
September 7, 201015 yr wow. learned something today. totally impressed by the video. David, would you share with us what touchscreen you bought? I mean, would I get that one from newegg or bestbuy? And how do you connect it to the PC, just 'normally' via a regular DVI cable or possibly even USB?BestPhil (still stunned)Hi ya it's an 8inch lilliput touch screen,it connects to your video card and to a usb port for the touch. You can undock any fmc from all aircraft and use the original. It cost me at the time 200 euros and I bought it on ebay.itI'll show a pic later if I can find my bluetooth device...Bye,David Di Domizio David

Just found one Mimo 7" on Ebay for 125 EUR incl. shipping. I am VERY tempted...I guess that my GFX card has two outlets, DVI and VGA or even possibly 2 DVI, must check. Would that work then with the MIMO? I am FSX'ing in windowed mode anyway, so can I just drag and drop the FMC to the MIMO?PhilEDIT: just read on the mino page the following:how does it work?simple, fast and easy to use1) Open and unpack monitor2) Install included driver software3) Connect the Monitor to the PC via the USB 2.0 Connector4) There is no step 4!As easy as 1-2-3. A typical installation takes fewer than five minutes!Would that mean I do not even need a VGA/DVI cable? Does it just work through USB? Sorry for being slightly OT... September 7, 201015 yr Would that mean I do not even need a VGA/DVI cable? Does it just work through USB? Sorry for being slightly OT...no, that means you have to connect it to the computer via VGA/DVI to use it as a standart display unit and to connect it via usb to use it as an touchscreen monitor.regardsMax

I also have the onboard graphics card sitting there doing nothing. What exactly would I need to connect the touchscreen to? the USB the spare VGA or both?Cheers Rob Prest
September 7, 201015 yr Commercial Member guys this is not related to the ngx.most of us here will not use it,can you move the discussion to another thread please, start a new topicthanks Alex Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
September 7, 201015 yr guys this is not related to the ngx.most of us here will not use it,can you move the discussion to another thread please, start a new topicthanks AlexSeems to me that it could very well have to do with the NGX. It has a FMC, and the discussion at hand here is about secondary displays that would house said FMC.We don't need forum police. After all - we haven't seen much in the way of updates, so I think any discussion right now is relevant. Blake Williams
September 7, 201015 yr OR even better, dont bother with that until the release of the NGX..no more delays [please? :P ]I know, I know, no more questions for release date, I won't do that. But dear Vince, maybe a releasedate of the new update and new screens in this forum. An exterial view would be great.So..on topic for now :Whistle:Eric Eric van Dorp
September 7, 201015 yr Commercial Member blakeit is nothing to do with the release of this NGX aircraft. its just a fmc that can be used for any aircraft.if it means alot to you, just make a new topic? :) Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK

So it is relevant. Whats the point of a discussion forum without discussions? Maybe they should close it down and start a blog instead. :-) Stian Beinset ENML

No VGA or DVI.Other monitors do have VGA/DVI and USB. VGA/DVI for the image and USB for the touchscreen, but not this one.Thats why it's slow... cause the data rate u get thru an USB isnt enough to make it as fast as other monitors.I agree, this is kinna offtopic so if u guys have doubts about this just send me a msg.Regards,Márcio Márcio Nóbrega
