August 25, 201015 yr Greetings to all, This may be a silly question, and I have searched but either not found a reference or this has not been asked before [but having past the age of retirement computer is not my first language]. I am interested in purchasing RC before doing so however is it suitable for GA with perhaps a UK bias. I have been flying FS for longer than I care to remember and I can count the number of times I have flown a ‘Jet’ or a ‘Heavy’ on one hand. I am strictly a single / twin prop or turbo prop sort of chap. Would RC be for me or is it primarily aimed at the ‘Cigar Tube Boys’? Regards Peter
August 25, 201015 yr Hi.'Primarily aimed at the "Cigar Tube Boys"?'No. Not at all. I fly pretty exclusively the stock Mooney (round the world) & a modded C172 (around the UK) and while RC is for IFR, it is for any IFR flight. The UK and States are good places to fly with it as it has also pre-recorded radio chatter to fill in the gaps between 'real' comms.Unless I'm deliberately out to look at the scenery, I almost never fly without it. I use Welshpool as my base (no approach or depature controllers) & RC handles it well, allowing IFR plans to be filed via FSS, on the ground or in the air. All levels of control and automation are catered for.I have to say that my VFR joy-rides are starting to feel a bit mickey-mouse as I have then to use the MS ATC or just turn the radio off...Buy it: you'll love it.Regards,Dave
August 25, 201015 yr In the flight settings for RC aircraft classes are defined as prop, turboprop, jet, and heavy jet.I've all except heavy under RC for controlled flight. For departing from an uncontrolled field RC simulates an FSS phone call to file your plan and get your clearance. You then have ten minutes (as I recall) to get in the air and activate it in flight. For arrival at a non-controlled field RC will line you up in the general direction and terminate radar services expecting you to navigate your own pattern. If the field is towered as I recall you'll get you'll get contacted by tower on final for landing clearance.
August 25, 201015 yr Greetings to all. My thanks to both Dave and Ron for their prompt replies, comments and advice to my question; it certainly seems then as if it will fit my needs. Thanks again to both. Regards Peter.
