Add-on Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Guest journeyer

In reinstalling my Windows OS, and then reinstalling MS FS9, I am now running up against the fact that I cannot add-on any aircraft. Is there anyone out there that has an idea why that might be? If so please respond, I am lost without the helicopters on Hovercontrol and other small planes. I don't really have the equipment for flying the heavy metal and really don't care to. Thank you so much for responding to my query everyone. Peace!

Hello and welcome to AVSIM forums (in the sense of reading your first post)! To begin with: there is no need to shout with a giant font, as size doesn't make a message more important than others. :(

I cannot add-on any aircraft
Could you write a bit more on that? How come that you cannot install addon aircraft? You don't know how or you get some kind of errors? If so, then what are the errors?Tell us more and I am sure I or someone else here can help you somehow.

It would also help to know what Operating System you are using - XP, Vista or Win 7.

I have as resources, 3.00 GHz RAM, AMD Quad Core 9600 Phenom processor, ASUS motherboard, with 650Watt power supply. The problem is that I load the aircraft, and I am aware of how to load add-on aircraft, but when the add-on aircraft are installed in the aircraft folder for FS9, the aircraft folders are there but the planes and helicopters do not show up on the listing of aircraft available for use in flying. As to using a larger font, I have a hard time seeing and a larger font is easier for me to see. It is difficult for me to use a smaller font but here it is, for your information. Also, I am using Windows XP Pro as an operating system.

If the sizes were not to be used then why offer them, I cannot see properly and the larger size fonts are easier for me to work with. I am truly sorry that you are offended by my use of larger fonts but think of it from my perspective, would you rather see what you are typing or have mistakes made in the description of problems you are having with your FS 9?

Did you edit the aircraft.cfg files so the aircraft shows? Are there missing [ ] in any of the [fltsim=x] entries? Are they commented out with a /? Did you number the fltsim entries starting from 0 and continuing on? Posting one of your aircraft.cfg files here could help us in finding out what may be wrong.I also do not think Rafal knew you were sight impaired when he first answered you. Knowing that now, we can work with you using a larger font size that you are comfortable with without resorting to using the largest which does make it appear you are yelling.

If you are having a hard time reading a small font, and you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, holding down the Ctrl button and scrolling the mouse wheel will adjust the browser screen resolution. At least it does for me, using Win XP and Firefox.regards,Joe

White Knight, thank you for the suggestions, I did make sure that the cfg. files were correct, I did obtain them from the Avsim Library so I know that they were correct. Also the Hovercontrol site has the correct cfg. files and I'm sure that they are loadable also. I have loaded these aircraft before this, but since the reinstall of Windows XP Pro two weeks ago I cannot load any add-on planes or helicopters. It stumps me why I cannot. Any other suggestions will definitely be helpful and appreciated and I don't hold the replies that speak about my use of larger fonts against anyone. Please give any suggestions you think may be helpful as I am a long time user of FS9 and FSX. So I am familiar with the loading of add-ons.

It might be helpful if you could provide the complete zip file name of one or more of the aircraft which you have "installed" but which do not show up in the aircraft selection menu.We would like to rule out the possibility that these are AI only aircraft and the .air file has been set so they do not display on the selection menu.

Opa, here's the full name of one of the zip files that I have tried to load C182rg_9 it is the Cessna 182 Retractable Gear from Flight Sim.com I have loaded these and other aircraft previously and had no problem, like I said, this cropped up when I did the reinstall of Windows XP Pro and added onto the memory another gig. I cannot for the life of me understand why I cannot load any add-on aircraft at all. My sources are as follows for aircraft, Mike Stone's website, Avsim's library and FlightSim.com for helicopters I only use Hovercontrol's add-ons and still cannot load any of them and have them show up in the selection area of the menu. Is it something that I'm doing because these are add-ons I have used before and now cannot?

I just downloaded the file, unzipped it to a temporary folder and then placed a copy of the folder named c182rg (which was in a folder name aircraft) into my Aircraft folder. It shows up properly under Cessna as the manufacturer and C182RG Skylane as the type and Weiß mit Gelb und Blau (which I presume means White with Gold and Black) as the variation.Did you follow the same procedure?

Opa, yes I did follow the same procedure. I unzipped the file into another folder and then put the sound folder into the sound folder of the main FS9 and then put the aircraft folder whole into the main aircraft file folder. Yet I cannot get it to show on the main selection menu.

In the file I downloaded there was no extra Sound folder at all when unzipped. Just a folder named Aircraft, a picture (jpg) and a few text files. If you copied the folder named Aircraft into your Aircraft folder, that is incorrect. You must go into that aircraft folder and find the folder named c182rg and copy it to your Aircraft folder. That is what I attempted to convey in my previous reply.
