Good overall Mesh

I was wondering what is the "default" mesh that FS2004 uses, and would it be worth upgrading the mesh. Is the 70M mesh a good all around mesh, or should I go down to 38.5Also, is FSGenesis the only mesh in town, or are there others.Thanks ahead.

You will notice a huge improvement installing FSGenesis 38m mesh, especially in the western US. I'm very happy with their 75m mesh also, which I've purchased for Canada, Mexico, and South America.The only game in town? Not really. You can sample free 38m mesh to your heart's content here http://www.simviation.com/fsdterrainusa.htm. I've used it to fill in some gaps in FSGenesis coverage in northeastern Nevada and it's quite good.But I still recommend FSGenesis strongly...a good outfit to do business with. And there's bundle discounting when you buy multiple meshes.John

I don't know the number, but I understand that the detail of the default mesh varies based on where you are. Some areas might have better detail than others. If you spend all your time at 30,000 feet, than enhancing your mesh may be of little value. If you like to fly low checking out the scenery or playing bush pilot, then improved mesh might be just the thing for you. I spend alot of time flying over the middle-america. FS Genesis's 38.5 mesh made a big difference for me, putting hills and bluffs where the default scenery had flat land.Tony

38m mesh is super, and has no perceptable hit on frames on this rig. MUCH improved over default. Running at 100% mesh complexityNoel

Thanks for all the good answers.Now for the big decison:Should I buy 38 meter mesh and stick with MS default landclass. ORShould I buy the 72 Meter Mesh and the new land class. I have limited funds, so it has to be one or the other.Which do you think will provide nicer results?

Hi Mesh Experts,When you are using 38m mesh scenery, where do you have the "Terrain Mesh Complexity" slider set? Is the difference between 85 and 100 perceivable?Also if you set the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL to 21 does it affect frame rates over lower LOD mesh?Thanks for your help,

wathomas777...If funds are an issue I recommend the lower LOD mesh and Landclass option. You can add the higher LOD mesh in "sections" at later dates. The Landclass is really sweet!With regard to the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL... setting the value higher only allows rendering of higher LOD meshes. Setting it high for lower LOD mesh will have no effect on system performance. Setting it at 23 will allow all avaivable commercial meshes to work fine.
