Best water textures for FS9?

Featured Replies

Very nice shots from FSX cmpbellsjc.I sure wished FS2004 water looked like FSX.SBuilder is a great tool to fix waterclass, but I see a huge difference between default water textures and those from "mywaterprojectv1.0.zip". Below are shots with FS2004 default textures and textures from "mywaterprojectv1.0.zip" (waterclass unchanged). Textures do make a difference in my opinion, as does waterclass.RJFrom: "mywaterprojectv1.0.zip"Default FS2004From: "mywaterprojectv1.0.zip"Default FS2004

Thanks RJ.

Oh yeah, I agree that there is a huge difference between the stock water textures and an aftermarket set pay or free. I was just pointing out in my post that even if you have the best water textures out there, the default waterclass can really mess up the look, especially when its not blended better between texture sets.I'm with you, SBuilder is a great tool to easliy fix waterclass. I wish I had known about it years ago. For a long time I have been pretty disappointed in much of the waterclass in both sims. Frankly, I am surprised with all the mesh and landclass addons that are out, no developer has done a payware waterclass projet.Hopefully the OP, Windycloud, keeps reading and finds a solution.

I bought Zinertek Ultimate Water for FS9 after this thread and I'm very happy with it. I didn't like the water surface animation, thought it was too crisp and galssy so I replaced the oceanheightfield.bmp with a more subtle one. Now I'm all set with great looking water in FS9. I get the waterclass aspect but it seems there is not an universal solution so I'll settle with these great looking water textures. By the way I also bought Zinertek airport environment at the same time. It is IMO the best of its kind, free or pay (though WAY too many DHL and FedEx hangar doors).

It takes a little effort to put together, however I have always been happy with "Holger's Water", by Holger Sandmann. Here's the recipe-regards,Joe
I'm also a fan of "Holger's Water", been using it for years, haven't yet found anything I like better (and I own Zinnertek) :smile:Jim
