1 Core Runs Hot - i7 860

Recommended Posts

Someone said that the 860 runs so hot because it has the PCMIAA Interface on chip.  Anyway - In the O'clocking guide (thanks Stephen) it show the layout. Is that why my core 4 runs so hot?  Like 20c hotter under load.  I have a Corsair H50 cooler (push / pull) and I was thinking that the thermal grease that came with it maybe wasn't so good and got some Artic Silver #5 from Milwaukee PC (in Madison) and will see if it adds a few degrees cooling.  It is rated to add 3-13c cooling over standard.jja

Attached is the result of a test on my i7-860 using RealTemp and Prime 95. Core 0 runs hottest at idle but core 3 increases in temperature the most under load. I assume your reference to core 4 is my core 3 in the report. There is certainly no 20 degree difference.

Suprisingly, the Artic Silver 5 thermal grease  seems to have corrected the problem.  Now running stably at 4.25. with temps in the 70's.  yayjja

The arctic silver is good stuff. I use the MX-3 version on my CPU. I like the fact that it's Non-Toxic
