What should I do?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,I just purchased a new computer. Its a mac pro 8-core that I'm looking to install bootcamp on. Now before everyone starts into me, I know that multi-core system isn't the best option for FSX, but I am a professional retoucher, and these towers are pretty standard in my industry, and I mostly need this machine for work. I have a few questions. Check out the my stats and let me know what you think will be best. 2 X 2.4 Ghz Quad Core Xeon (8 Cores)12 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAMATI 5870 1 GIG vRAM1. Should I use windows 7 or vista? I am sure I should use 64 bit operating system to access more RAM usage.2. Will I able to access ATI's interface to control better AA? I know that went I ran FSX on my iMac, my 256 mb video card couldn't handle ANY AA. I just ran COD4 with all the settings ridiculously high, and it appears the ATI 5870 really does well with 4X AA. Any advice on this would be great.Any other advice would also be helpful. Thanks guys!!

Stay away from Vista, its the biggest piece of garbage since Win ME, Win 7 64 runs FSX fine.

What is a "professional retoucher"???
I'm guess he retouches and edits photos for magazines or advertisements. Kind of like what the people do after they shoot cover models for Vogue, Esquire, SI Swim suite issue, etc., someone goes back and airbrushes the photos to get rid of the models flaws, etc.

Ditto on Vista. Windows 7 is, in my experience, a vastly better performer. It works great with FSX, too.

He nailed it on the head. I work with commercial photographers to produce imagery used for Advertising and editorial projects here in the States. Vogue, Nike, et al. I myself am a classically trained photographer with a degree in the medium, but retouching pays way better out of college than starving on free work from sub-par magazines.Any word on the video card? Thanks for the advice boys!Cheers
