What about the PMDG 747?

Featured Replies

If there ever is a 747 V2 it's hopefully based on the -8. I'd love a high fidelity regional jet from PMDG however. A CRJ or ERJ would be perfect. The Wilco renditions are mediocore.

Agree. There is not to much time remaining to the launch of the -8 (the freighter will be delivered already next year), so if a new 747 is to be done, it should be the -8. And regarding regional jets, Embraer are my favorite. :D

There is absolutely nothing wrong or "lite" in terms of systems in the PMDG 747, if anything it was regarded as the benchmark for systems authenticity along with the leveld 767 when it was released for FSX/FS9. The VC needs some work of course, but I'm grateful that it has 3d buttons/switches for just about everything, something that has been lacking in the LevelD 767 and original PMDG 737. As much as I love the LVD767, it annoys me to have to pull up a 2d popup of the radio pedestal in the VC, likewise the FMC and its static image in VC. \The 747 It would also benefit from mouse wheel interaction for such things as the MCP (especially the altitude/heading selector), I hate using the left-right mouse button to adjust!! The MD-11 was a game changer when it comes to VC mouse interaction, I can't wait to see its user interface features on the 737 and 777.The exterior is and remains beautiful and full of details like the bump mapping, shine, etc. I can't see how they can improve upon that (aside from HD textures like ones released by mcphat or freeware MD11 HD from Lee Marrow)Like most here, I would love to see a "V2" of the queen, but given the pipeline of projects they are working on, they really need to focus and crank out the 737 dash and 777. A brand new 777 trumps an updated 747, you don't need me to tell you that.

PMDG already have done the 748. It is an add-on to the 744.

That is just a visual update. It does not update any systems. One example is the GEnx, which will power the 748 and the Dreamliner, is meant to be bleed-airless, which is one of the main objectives in the design of the new engine.Plus with the larger plane, the MTOW and such are all going to be higher, including range and fuel. On top of that, Boeing seems to have all its focus on producing the 748 freighter, and may never build a pax version.

As I understood it the GEnx's on the 748's are different to those on the 787's in that they do use bleed air, although i'm not sure if it's just for starting them or also for the pneumatic systems

That could be. I have to admit, I have not read up on the bleed-airless feature of the GEnx in a while, but I do remember that the first time they were used in their bleed-airless fashion was on a 744. I am not sure either on the configuration of BOE 5 and BOE 6, the two GEnx Dreamliners being used in flight testing, if they are set up for bleed-air or not.

I think Ryan has said there isn't a plan to update the 744 since they have so completely updated their approach to programming that they would need a bottom-up redo. But, maybe that will change at some point in the future if MS updates the Sim, DX11 gets supported, etc.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. PMDG should use their new programming approach and completely upgrade the 747 so it will stand strong next to the incredible NGX, the MD-11 and the J41, and soon, the 777 aswell. The 747 is just too legendary to leave behind. Make it as good and shiny as all the other PMDG planes. It's not something that's urgent or anything as it is still one of the best airliner simulations out there, but please put it in your "to do list". I think a lot of people would appreciate a V2.

Their's nothing wrong with the 747, It has been gracing the skies for 40yrs and with the 7478i will have more powerful GEnx engines then the previous versions with less fuel consumption. An update to the cockpit would be a gps unit since it will be the way of nav in the future.:(

Totally agree the 747 needs a face lift, the VC is really looking its age, agree with the one of the posters that the Mouse interface needs bringing up to the standard of the leveld and other PMDG, but ideally what I would like to see happen with any 747 upgrade is an SDK to use it with Hardware addons. I use mainly the levelD 767(which VC spread across 3 22inch montitors looks far better than the 747 even though levelD is geting on a bit now) and love being able to pretty much never having to touch the mouse in flight, as i can map all controls to my hardware, mcp etc... There no point PMDG doing 767 or 757 as Leveld will eventually release 757 and then probably update 767.The 777 is interesting but doenst really make me exctited, Im more looking forward to the DH8(but hopefully they are going to do the DH8D and not just the old 300) If i was able to dictate what PMDG did, I would say, NGX, DH8D, Upgrade 747 then 777, but saying that I would really love to get hands on a PMDG Airbus, but again would probably prefer the A340 over smaller ones.I do love the 747 though as its a common plane for me to fly on in real life so would love to see it be upgraded.Regards

Gents-Will the PMDG 747-400 get an all-over rebuild? Absolutely...When? Stay tuned.

As far as my opinion goes, and that is just mine, one customer of PMDG, and I am sure I am not a good reprentation of the average PMDG customer,I would love to see PMDG come up with a V2 of the 747. Develop the 747-8, both the future passenger version, and the new freighter version, this includes the GEnx modeled up, new avionics (I am not sure what these are supposed to be, but I am sure there are some sort of upgrades there), and VC up to the new PMDG standard, widescreen support would be greatly appreciated for sure. I would buy a new PMDG 747 the day of release. As far as a 767 goes, I would buy a PMDG 767 the day it would be released. I enjoy flying the Level D, have had many hours of fun flying around, but the VC is very dated, the FMS being static in the VC is something that still bothers me, and the bugs in the plane, I would trade in my Level D for a PMDG 767 in a heartbeat. And if such a hypothetical plane would include all the varients, including the 400ER, and the modern updates to the flight deck, would make it an aircraft I would fly quite often. As for the Level D 757, I will believe it when I see it. They have said they are making that thing for years, with no update on its progress in ever, I put an update/patch for the 767 to be in the same level of Imagination land as their 757. And my opinion of Level D of the sort that I will never buy another plane from them ever again. As far as a PMDG airbus goes, there is not a chance I will buy that. No way, no how.Cant wait for the 737NGX, cant wait for the 777, would love an update to the 747, would love to see a PMDG 767, but really hope their next project to be the Dreamliner.

After I put in my post, I saw this. Mr Randazzo, you are one of the good guys. Also saw your post on the failure systems. PMDG products have been amazing, in my opinion, and the fact that you only want to exceed, not just by a few feet, but my miles and miles, those previous marks is inspiring.Cant wait to see what your future plans entail.

Now PMDG are really starting to make me happy, 737 with a SDK, and now an update to the 747 also hopefully with an SDK! Excellent news...now just need to hear the DH8 will be the D version aslo....oh and all these things get released!
