October 10, 201015 yr I currently have an i5 quad 3.2 CPU with a Nvidia 250 GTS 1.0 gig and looking to buy and install a new nvidia 470 1.2 qig ddr5 I believe and was wondering what sort of performance increase that I might see in FSX. I get a pretty steady average of 20 FPS with pretty high sliders now and REX HD clouds and lots of high end airport scenery. FPS may briefly drop to lower teens in the high density airports but typically high teens to mid twenties . . . Just curious if the 470 GTX will provide a marked improvement in fluidity and FPS performance?ThanksJoe Joe Porter

So, you should see a noticeable increase in performance as the GTX470 is a vastly more powerful card than the 250 . I remember when some of the magazine articles I read said that my 9800GT was better than the 260. I was having problems flying over dense scenery on approach to London Heathrow airport. It really got frustrating for me when my machine would stutter as this definitely caused the illusion of flight to just get lost!!!!!! So, I upgraded to the 260 to see what would happen. Despite what the magazine articles said, I noticed an immediate improvement to my overall frame-rates. I could fly over the same patch of scenery that was causing stutters with my 9800GT using the 260 with NO problems!!! And that was BEFORE I installed the Aerosoft London city scenery & Heathrow airport. Now, the addition of that scenery did decrease frame-rates a liitle bit. And, the decrease was noticeable. But, not to the point of any stutters!! So, since the GTX hasa faster processor speed & more processors on that card, I think you will find that all other things on your computer staying the same, you will find a noticeable improvement in frame-rates. Check out some films on Youtube. Do a search for FSX GTX480. The GTX470 is not as good as a GTX480, but, that should give you an idea of the performance you could be looking at. Now, his machine specs are a little bit different than yours, but it should give you some idea. Good luck!
October 10, 201015 yr Author Thank you very much, I will google those youtube videos and probably give the 470 a go, can't afford the 380 right now .. . Joe Porter
October 10, 201015 yr Thank you very much, I will google those youtube videos and probably give the 470 a go, can't afford the 380 right now .. .No not really it would proably been a very small improvement maybe 5-7FP/S, not at all worth the 300USD wait a bit for the GTX485 and 495 to come out or event he Ati 6000 series your GPU is already very good! But if you're really in a rush to upgrade go and get a GTX460 won't cost as much (230$) and it will perform almost as well as the 470. The difference between GTX280 vs. 460 is also very small so I say hang on to the card for now.And what he said about the GTX470 vs 480 is not true the differnce (in FSX) between those is so minute it's laughable.
