FSUIPC and the stutters

Featured Replies

This started out as a search for a weather add-on. I own FSMeteo, and Marc has offered his normal "above the call of duty" service and support. He's e-mailed me two versions since FS9 was released, and I was anxious to try them both. But both versions were afflicted with the stutters. There are two types I experience... a subtle and almost unoticeable rythmic "hitch" that occurs every 3-4 seconds. I started seeing them today... but only because I was looking for them. The other is very distracting, and occurs whenever the weather is updated. Also, the transitions are anything but smooth.Having been very happy in the past with FSMeteo, I reluctantly started doing research on some of the other packages. I tested Weather Center Novice yesterday, and was quite impressed. Alas, the stutters were present there, too.So I decided to learn more about these little stutters. I started flying with the sole purpose of watching for them. The big, nasty ones were only present when one of the add-on weather programs was running. It was the tiny, almost unseeable ones that I focused on. They were always present... real weather (FS's) or not. I started thinking about what could be causing them. I removed all add-on Wx programs from my system... stutters were still there. I don't remember seeing them when the sim was freshly installed after release. So I looked over all the add-ons I have (not many).Until I came to FSUIPC. I removed it from the Modules folder, and voila... no stutters. Brought FS's weather online, and still no stutters. Smooth as silk. Placed FSUIPC back in the Modules folder, and there they were. DL'ed and installed the latest version (upgraded from 3.04 to 3.07)... still no joy.I'm wondering how many others have experinced this? I certainly don't blame Pete Dowson or Marc Philbert. They clearly have worked hard with a minimum of tools for FS9 to make their products work. But until I see something that doesn't have this impact on FS9 (even minor as it is on my system), I'll run without FSUIPC.Any others seeing the "rythmic hitch"?

G'day GregInteresting.I'll give it a try in about 5 mins and get back to you.

I had it with Version 2.89, with off-line weather.Lengthened my update time to much longer. Learnedto live with it.Peter Sydney Australia

I think you will find this in all weather addons. I use fsmeteo and only get a very slight stutter when it's updating that lasts just a few seconds. I have used Weather Center 2 and this for me has the most stutter and sudden changes even with the latest 2.3.1 version, so I will stick with FSmeteo.I think there are a lot of comments at Pete Dowsons forum, by what I have read it's something that is in FS2004, not FSUIPC.Anthony

I've have had the same problems. The 2-3 second pauses (stutters) that happen at weird times and the 5-7 second pauses that occur shortly after the weather updates. I've had these even with the default FS9 weather. Tonight I'll fly a short hop with FSUIPC 3.06 (payware) removed and using the default weather. I normally use Radar Contact and may not be able to use it without FSUIPC installed. We'll see. If I can get rid of the stutters for now, I'll gladly use only the default ATC for a while until this all gets sorted out. :-wave

Hi,Same thing occurs here, shame if it is Fs2004 that is causing it because FSUIPC and FSMeteo are good addons, I have removed FSUIPCand ran with default Jep wx and had not pausing at all.Steve

Have you tried the solution:Uncheck the "Render to Texture" box in the video hardware section?THIS SOLVES THE STUTTERS. It's a workaround, yes, not a true solution, but it *DOES* work.

Mine is not checked. And, I still have the stutters......

I have these stutters when I have wxRE running and it is in an update interval (about every 15 min). I also notice them with FS dynamic weather but the stutters are much more subtle in that mode. My partially educated guess is that the Weather Updates are happening on a separate thread that was intended for use with Hyper Threading; but I have an old AMD 1.3 Gig and "it aint got no HT".

On my system this has nothing to do with any weather program (FS's or add-on). I get the rythmic stutter every 3-4 secs (lasts for less than a second) as long as FSUIPC is in the Modules folder. Remove it, and the system is fine under any circumstances. As another posted stated, I hope this isn't an incompatibility between FSUIPC and FS9. But on my system it certainly looks that way.Sys Spec:AMD 2400XP @ 2700ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2.0 1.16 driversATI 9700 Pro @ 350/330 Omega 24781 Gig Corsair XMS 3200Maxtor 40 Gig 7200 ATA133Turtle Beach SoundSony 52x24x52 CD-RWIomega 100 Mb ZipLian-Li w/ Antec 430W PSU

I have exactly the same condition occurring.I posted a message on this about a month ago.I get the same rhythmic stutters. Very subtle but once you notice it, that

I to get those stutters. But I don't think my FSUPIC works right with either FS9 or WXRE. I can not get smooth visibility changes or smooth wind changes. And the clock will not stay synched up with the system clock. I fly the PMDG 737 all the time so taking off FSUPIC is not a option for me. It just seems not to work as well in 2004 as it does in 2002. I am sure Peter will get it worked out, he always has.

Ditto here. I ran a test flight tonight. I completely removed FSUIPC from my modules folder and flew a flight using FS9 Weather and ATC (I've been using Radar Contact which requires a registered FSUIPC). Results were an increase of 5-10 fps and absolutely NO stuttering at all. Smooth as silk. My fps topped out in the 50s but mostly ran in the lower 30s for the 20 minute duration of my test. Previously, I was getting an average of just under 20 fps.So, looks like I have to temporarily revoke my "Proud Supporter of Radar Contact" banner for a while until the issue of FSUIPC is resolved. :(

Hi Steve... glad to see that some of your problems with getting FS9 to run seem to be abating.I just ran another set of tests. I flew with three of FS9's weather themes. I first ran a theme with FSUIPC in the Modules folder, and then ran the same theme again after removing FSUIPC. In each case the sim had the stutter with the .dll loaded, and the stutters weren't present with the .dll removed. So... the stutters are present when FSUIPC is installed even when running without any kind of downloaded weather.I'm fortunate in that the only add-on I have that requires FSUIPC is the Valmet Vinka. And the reasons it is required I have been able to work around by editing the aircraft.cfg and tweaking my Valmet program for my HOTAS Cougar.Hopefully this issue can be resolved soon... lots of folks require and rely upon FSUIPC.
