September 22, 200322 yr Hi Guys,I have been having some trouble with FS9. First of all, it won't close down properly. With Ctrl+Alt+Del I get into System Info and shut it down as a process. Not great fun as you can imagine. Second of all when I go to look for my FS9.cfg file I cannot find it! Not even in C:Document and SettingsMatthewApplication Data and so forth.......Has anyone had these symptoms before? Anyone know a cure? I am curious by nature and do not want to give up too quickly, so I'd like to search for an answer with anyone willing to assist!Kind regards,Matthew
September 22, 200322 yr Have you gone to C:Documents and Settingsyour nameApplication DataMicrosoftFS9?
September 22, 200322 yr Make sure that you have hidden files showing.Open up an Explorer window and click on Tools-Folder Options-View.Then click on Show Hidden Files and Folders. As far as not being able to shutdown Windows properly, it could be a program that's delaying it.You can use MSCONFIG to unload all your startup items to see whether that helps.
September 22, 200322 yr "I have been having some trouble with FS9. First of all, it won't close down properly."Matthew,If you have no FS9.cfg, how are you able to start FS9? Recommend you download Ken Salter's FS9 Configurator located in the AVSIM library. It will find your FS9.cfg...Jim Young

September 22, 200322 yr Gosta,You may be right about the FS9.cfg not being installed until you first run the sim. However, if you look at Matthew's original post, he states the application will not shut down properly. This indicated to me that he successfully loaded the sim. So he does have a FS9.cfg on his system. That's why I made my comments earlier. I suspect his folders are still hidden. Just wanted to clarify things.Ciao,Jim Young
September 22, 200322 yr Hi Jim,as far as I know, the .cfg is created on exit. If the sim never shut down properly, none will have been created.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
September 22, 200322 yr Just what I was about to write Gosta...You have to get at least one succseful shutdown..
September 23, 200322 yr Well then Matthew, based on the feedback from Gosta and Ben, you probably do NOT have a FS9.cfg yet. I'm learning something new everyday... How about going into your display settings when you start up the sim and check to make sure your video card is being identified properly. If so, I would suggest moving your sliders left or right or change some of your display settings, then create a flight. When you exit, try using the ctrl-c key combination. If none of the suggestions work, I recommend reinstalling. Make sure you have Direct X 9a or 9b installed too as well as the latest video drivers. Hope this helps.Ciao,Jim Young
September 23, 200322 yr I am just thinking its alao possible to make FS9 run in safe mode (sometimes im kinda slow on the obvious) just go to All programs > microsoft > microsoft games > troubleshooting > Safe modeAnd try that first if you can start and shut down in safe mode you should get a FS9.cfg file (fingers crossed) once you get that have a look at your CFG file and see if something looks odd.
September 23, 200322 yr Hi Guys,Thanks for all the responses. I have also searched in the hidden files but had not found anything therefore my question on this forum. I must admit, I am using the no CD crack in order to use the SimCharts CD since I only have 1 CD player. I can start up FS9 no problem, it save all my display settings but have not tested with a default flight yet. When I start FS9 and then shut down without making a flight, there is no problem. When I start FS9 and make a flight with for instance my PMDG package, the sim runs great but it takes to long to shut down. I get a message that the program is not responding.I will try the configurator file today and see if that helps. And also try to fly the sim with the original FS9.exe. This all may be having a collective effect on the run of things.Sorry that I did not respond quicker, but I live in the Netherlands and was asleep zzzzzzzzz! Please keep coming with any thoughts and ideas, they are much appreciated!Matthew
